Liverpool Target Mario Mandzukic As Atletico Madird Eye Replacement

According to latest reports in English media, Liverpool FC are keen on signing Atletico Madrid’s 29-year-old striker Mario Mandzukic in the summer. The Premier League side have been in search of a quality striker due to the lack of goals from its current strike force. Madzukic currently at Atletico Madrid, has now emerged as a possible target for Liverpool.

Atletico Madrid bought Mandzukic from Bayern Munich last summer for a bargainable price of a 22 million after he became out of favour at the club due to Robert Lewandowski’s arrival. The striker has had a decent outing with the Spanish side in his debut season, scoring 12 goals in 28 La Liga appearances.

But it is believed that Diego Simeone is not content with Mandzukic’s performance and is planning to rope in Aston Villa’s Belgian forward Christian Benteke. Benteke’s future at Villa Park is under scrutiny as several top clubs have shown interest in the striker. The 24-year-old striker is reportedly considering a move out Aston Villa for better prospects. He has scored 13 goals for the Premier League club in 28 appearances.

Statistically, both the forwards have had a similar season with a comparable goals per game tally. But it is believed that the Spanish outfit is not satisfied with the Croatian’s endeavour and are looking forward to replace him.

This has put Liverpool under alert who are looking forward to rope in a quality striker to strengthen their squad. The Reds had bought Mario Balotelli last summer after Luis Suarez left. Unfortunately, the highly rated Italian experiment has failed and the club suffered a drop out of the top four. Mandzukic who is an opportunistic striker will definitely suit the club and serve their cause.
