The world of football is in the midst of a huge war against corruption, and another little battle seems to have popped up in Spain. The linesman, who has requested to remain unnamed for fear of reprisals, says that the match official who is supposed to officiate at the La Ligaa s biggest fixture of the season called him up and asked the linesman to make the key decisions, as there is more media pressure, on the main referee.

When it was understood that the linesman was not interested in anything of the kind, he received a call from one of the senior members of the Refereea s Committee, and was told to be “intelligent” if he wanted to progress in his career, according to Spanish radio station COPE.

The senior official, has allegedly been identified as Jose Angel Jimenez Munoz de Morales, and was quoted clarifying his stance to Daily Mail, a I have no idea where they come from. It is like something out of a Kafka novel.a

Real Madrid CF are currently leading the La Liga table, but are tied on points with Celta Vigo and FC Barcelona. They play Celta Vigo this weekend in a tie that is set to shape the top section of the league this season.

Interestingly however, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone had said earlier this year that since Real Madrid CF have been able to get just one trophy in the last seven seasons, this seasona s La Liga has been a dangerously prepared for Real Madrida .

However, the Real Madrid management and fans have rubbished such claims, pointing out the fact that FC Barcelona have been awarded seven penalties, so far, this season, while they themselves have been awarded just one.
