There was to be no giant-killing on Wednesday night as Premier League champions Chelsea FC cantered to a 4-1 win over League One outfit Walsall in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Brazilian teenager Kenedy made his first start for the club, and put in an electric performance from the left flank: constantly harassing the opposition when not in possession, and running confidently with the ball when afforded time and space.

The 19-year-old’s delicious cross allowed compatriot Ramires to open the scoring for the Blues, before the Brazil international turned provider late in the first half, setting up Frenchman LoA?c R my for his first goal of the season.

Chelsea FC fans happy with Kenedy and Loftus-Cheek; Falcao a disappointment

Walsall did get a goal back to make things interesting for a period, but the result was put beyond doubt when an excellent move involving John Obi Mikel and Ruben Loftus-Cheek was finished expertly by Kenedy to restore a two-goal cushion for his team. Second-half substitute Pedro put the icing on the cake with a late strike from outside the box.

Chelsea FC fans were delighted with the performances of their two teenage starters in Kenedy and Loftus-Cheek, but slammed the display of Radamel Falcao, who missed a couple of good opportunities, and appeared well off the pace.

The Colombian’s night was perhaps best summed up by a tragically hilarious moment in the second half: the Blues won a free-kick in a dangerous position just outside the box, and the No 9 slipped just as he was about to make contact with the ball, horribly miscuing it in the process.
