Everton Defender Seamus Coleman says that holding on to players like Romelu Lukaku and John Stones is a massive statement made by the club.

Everton FC currently sit 9th on the EPL table with 17 points, 9 behind league leaders Manchester City and Arsenal, and this is in large part thanks to key contributions from young players like John Stones in defence, and Romelu Lukaku, who has scored seven goals in twelve games behind only prolific Leicester City marksman Jamie Vardy.

“Hea s a great finisher and if we can play to his strengths hea s a massive threat for us. Wea re very happy that hea s scoring goals and long may that continue,” Coleman told reporters in Dublin, according to goal.com. “Hea s a young lad, people forget, but he keeps scoring close to 20 goals a season so ita s great for us.”

“It was a massive statement from the club [to keep Stones at Goodison Park.”, he added.

“It was a great statement from the manager to keep him and wea re delighted to keep him. Thata s what the manager wants, to keep his best players. He doesna t want to sell his best players which is great for us.”

Reclaiming Past Glory

Everton have a huge history as an English football club with a record of accomplishments and honours, surpassed only by Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. But since the 1990’s, they have remained by and large a mid-table side that is capable of springing a few surprises once in a while.

But with the current crop of players under a dynamic manager like Roberto Martinez, Everton look to reclaim their place as one of England’s top clubs. Young players like Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku, John Stones and Seamus Coleman himself give hope for the future and if the club is able to hold on to them then the table toppers will have a reason to be wary.
