According to reports, Real Madrida s Iker Casillas has decided to stay put and a fighta for his place at Santiago Bernabeu, a decision that could derail David De Geaa s transfer from Manchester United.
Real Madrida s interest in Manchester Uniteda s David De Gea is no secret. However, in his last year of contract, Ed Woodward has been forced to negotiate with Real Madrid over the Spaniard with the question over Iker Casillasa future looming large over the alleged transfer. Reports suggest that David De Gea is unwilling to move to the Spanish capital unless Iker Casillas is safely out of the club so as to not be able to exert any pressure on the newcomer. A legend at the club, Casillas exercises enormous influence at Real Madrid and with the Spanish Press and hence could make a life hella for David De Gea following his high-profile move. De Gea doesna t want to be seen in the role of someone who has usurped Iker Casillasa position at Santiago Bernabeu and hence has reportedly insisted that he would only move to Real Madrid if they were to get rid of Iker Casillas.
Iker Casillas, though faces a challenge quite unique to himself. Having clashed with Jose Mourinho, Casillas lost his starting position at the club, a decision that was backed by new manager Carlo Ancelotti who preferred Diego Lopez over the Spanish captain to man the posts in the La Liga. Casillas however, was given the responsibility in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, two competitions that Real Madrid ended up winning in that season. However Casillasa performance was hardly noteworthy and his blunder in the Champions League final almost cost Madrid its a La Decimaa . However the spoils always belong to the victor as so Diego Lopez made an exit from Real Madrid with the Spanish captain reinstated in the starting eleven. Therefore, it seems that Iker Casillasa insistent reiteration of his desire to stay put and a fight for his placea at Madrid springs from the knowledge that David De Gea would not move to Real Madrid if he were to stay at the club. And in doing so, Casillas is basically jeopardizing David De Geaa s move to Real Madrid. Reports also suggest that Real Madrid have not received a single offer for Iker Casillas and hence will have to buy out his contract, a move that could reportedly cost the club around a 20 or 21 million.
