Schneiderlin has been impressive for the Saints

Rio Ferdinand has backed Manchester Uniteda s move to sign Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton, but remains unsure about Sergio Ramos leaving Real Madrid.

Morgan Schneiderlina s future has remained under constant speculation this summer. The Southampton midfielder, whose reputation has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of seasons, has been constantly linked with a move to Manchester United in this transfer window. Initial reports claimed that the Frenchman has agreed terms with the Red Devils, but Southampton boss Ronald Koeman recently dismissed those reports and insisted that they are yet receive an offer from United.

Telegraph and Sky Sports ran contradicting reports last night on the current status of the Schneiderlin saga. Telegraph claimed that Manchester United will complete the signing of Schneiderlin before the end of this week, for a fee of A?24 million, and the midfielder will travel to Old Trafford in the next 48 hours. But Sky insisted that the move is currently on hold as United are yet to return with a second bid after their initial bid of A?25 million was rejected.

Despite the contradicting reports, the odds remain heavily in favour of Schneiderlin joining Louis van Gaala s team, and it seems only a matter of time before the two clubs reaches an agreement. Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has backed this move and feels that his arrival will improve the team considerably.

“20 million pounds, it looks like it’s going to be done, I think he’s a good player, a good addition to the squad, especially if someone like [Michael] Carrick, who is so influential for United, gets injured. I think this guy can step in and help buffer that. I think he’s a very good, talented player.

“He’s a player who could add something to United, a bit of steel, can pass the ball and play it through the lines from back to.” a The former Manchester United defender said on his YouTube channel.

Parallel to the Schneiderlin saga, United have also been involved in a bit of transfer warfare with Real Madrid. The Spanish club are determined to sign David De Gea, while United seemingly want Sergio Ramos in exchange. Ferdinand however remains sceptical about Ramos leaving Madrid to move to Old Trafford.

“I just still can’t see it, I think he’ll stay at Madrid. He’ll play alongside [Raphael] Varane or Pepe next season.

“They’ve got three top centre-backs there. For them to let him go, unless they’ve got another Varane coming through that we don’t know about, I can’t see them letting him leave. “It’s a lot of money to spend on a guy who is 29 with no resale value, so it’s a huge, huge deal.” a Ferdinand added.

.

As a fan however, Ferdinand couldna t hide his excitement, about being linked with a world class defender, and expressed it on social media.
