Alaba Backs Lewandowski To Break Gerd Muller’s Record Of Most Bundesliga Goals In a Season

Javi Martinez insists there is no better number nine in the world at the moment, while defender David Alaba has backed his teammate Robert Lewandowski to break Gerd Muller’s record of most Bundesliga goals in a season.

.

Robert Lewandowski is in the form of his life, having already netted 19 times this season, for both club and country. Javi Martinez believes the 27-year-old stands head and shoulders above anyone playing in that central position, and understandably so.

“Lewandowski is the best striker in the world right now,” the Spaniard said at a press conference, as reported by goal.com

“He really is unbelievable. But that hasn’t just started. He was already superb while he was still with Borussia Dortmund and in his first season at Bayern as well.

“He scores a lot of goals at the moment and is incredibly important for Bayern. He does not only score a lot of goals, but always helps the team defensively as well.”

The eulogizing did not end, as David Alaba too, had a few kind words for the Polish international. The Austrian said that he has no second thoughts on Lewandowski going past the 40-goal mark. “Of course, 40 goals is a big mark,” the Austrian concluded.”But everything is possible with Lewandowski.”

That Lewandowski is a world-class player was never a doubt, but this season could be the best of his career. He has performed impressively considering few people expected him to be realistically competing with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in terms of goals. He will have a chance to add to his already monstrous tally when Bayern travel to Werder Bremen on Saturday.
