Cristiano Ronaldo Leapfrogs Hugo Sanchez To Occupy Third Spot In La Liga’s All Time Top Scorers Chart

The great Cristiano Ronaldo moved up to third in La Liga’s all time top scorers chart after he stabbed home in the first half of Real Madrid’s 4-1 win against Getafe. The goal was his 236th for los Blancos, and the Portuguese is just 18 strikes behind second highest top scorer Telmo Zarra.

Hugo Sanchez, who scored 235 goals in La Liga for Atletico, Real, and Rayo Vallecano during his career, was left behind by Ronaldo, as the Real Madrid superstar found the net for the 236th time in Real Madrid white.

18 goals away from second spot

The Portugal captain is just 18 goals away from leapfrogging Telmo Zarra , who currently occupies second spot as he scored 253 times for Athletic Bilbao between 1940 and 1955.

The rate at which Ronaldo has been scoring for Real Madrid, one would imagine it is only a matter of time before Ronaldo overtakes Zarra. And once he does, no prizes for guessing who he will be competing with for being top scorer.

Will Ronaldo surpass Messi in becoming La Liga’s all time top scorer?

The Argentine has scored 289 times for Barcelona and is still going strong, if not stronger than his Portuguese counterpart in terms of goals.

Ronaldo would have to score 56 times just to draw level with Messi, but considering that their scoring rates are similar, there would always be a difference of approximately 50 goals between them. Also, Messi is two years younger which gives him more time to widen the goal gap between him and Ronaldo.

It is unlikely that Ronaldo will ever be La Liga’s top scorer, as long as Messi is in Spain. That said, his achievements in recent past have been of the kind and quality that most players would not even dream of targeting.

.

So, can Ronaldo make it happen? Or will Messi come up trumps?

Three things that man can never comprehend – time, space, and the Ronaldo-Messi squabble.
