Chelsea FC Team Update: Willian fit to face Newcastle, Diego Costa continues serving three-match ban

Chelsea FC manager Jos Mourinho reported a clean bill of health for his side, confirming that Brazil international Willian was fit again after hobbling off against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Blues’ Champions League opener

 

Chelsea FC travel to St.James’ Park in the final Premier League game on Saturday, hoping to get their first win at the stadium with Jos Mourinho as manager. The Portuguese has famously never won at the venue in the Premier League, drawing two and losing three of his five games.

In positive news for the Blues, Mourinho will be able to call upon his entire squad for the Magpies’ test, with Brazil international Willian recovering in time for the clash. Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois remains sidelines with a long-term knee injury.

Mourinho confirms Willian return, says the squad is fully fit

Speaking at his press conference on Friday ahead of the game, Mourinho said (via chelseafc.com): “Yes, [Willian] is okay. Everybody’s okay.”

The Portuguese also claimed he is yet to choose his striker for the game, with Frenchman LoA?c R my as well as Colombian Radamel Falcao in contention for the role. “I dona t know, I could tell you I know but I dona t,” Mourinho said.

“I have to keep analysing the opponent, I have to try to know more about them, who is playing, who is not playing, who is injured, who plays with Coloccini in central defence? Mbemba, Williamson or another one? I have to try to know a bit more to make my decision.

“All of them are good players, we have good strikers.”

Mourinho denies looking to sign keepers on emergency loan after Courtois injury

When asked whether there was any truth to the rumours that Chelsea FC were looking at a number of keepers to sign on an emergency loan, Mourinho said: “No. We have one goalkeeper injured. We have Begovi and the third goalkeeper now becomes the second.

“Obviously when you start the season you expect all the three goalkeepers to be ready for the season. [But] we lost Courtois for three months, now two and a half months. But that’s what we have.”

The current Chelsea FC second-choice keeper is academy graduate Jamal Blackman, who has featured for the first team in pre-season friendlies, but has yet to make his first-team d but at the club. The Englishman spent the previous season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, but failed to force his way into the Boro first team.
