Bartomeu has recently revealed that the club has posted record revenues of a 600m and the club can compete with anyone in the transfer market, even the Premier League clubs who have an increased spending capacity thanks to a 70 percent increase in the value of its British television rights for the 2016-19 seasons with Sky and BT paying a combined 5.136 billion pounds ($7.8 billion) to show games.

‘Messi going nowhere’

Laughing off suggestions that the Premier League clubs can lure Lionel Messi following additional financial muscle, Bartomeu said to BBC . :

a The new Premier League television rights contract is something that the rest of the leagues have to follow. But no other club in the world has as big an income as Barcelona.”

a In our opinion, our team will be more competitive. This year we have six possible trophies a La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup, World Club Cup a that we want to win. Ita s not going to be easy but we are going to try.a

FC Barcelona signed Luis Suarez from Liverpool FC last season and the player went onto play a significant role in the treble winning season. Bartomeu went onto reveal that the club were tracking the player from his Ajax days and the feisty Uruguayan bought ‘something extra’ to the team.

a It was not a gamble. We knew the player Suarez was. We had been following his progress since his time at Ajax. The first time we had the chance to bring him to Barcelona we tried and we were successful.”
