Diego Simeone has decided to sign a renewal with the reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid for three additional seasons.
Diego Simeonea s previous deal with Atletico Madrid was set to expire in the summer of 2017 and host of top European clubs, including Man City and Paris Saint Germain, were interested in the services of the 44 year-old. But, Atletico Madrid management has acted quickly to fend-off the potential interest by offering Diego Simeone a new deal.

Diego Simeone joined Atletico Madrid as a coach in December 2011 and he has endured an extremely successful spell at the capital club. Atletico Madrid has won UEFA Europa League (2012), UEFA Super Cup (2012), Copa Del Rey (2013), La Liga (2014) and Supercopa De Espana (2014) under the guidance of Diego Simeone.
Meanwhile, Diego Simeone has also expressed his happiness with the extension of his contract at Atletico Madrid.
“This is a very important moment. The club has shown faith in the staff and I really appreciate this,” Diego Simeone said at a press conference.
“I want to thank all the players, both the ones who have left the club and those who opted to stay put. This would not have been possible without them.
“We are all looking forward to the new stadium and it is a great prospect to be part of the opening.
