The young England international scored a goal right out of the top drawer to win the F.A. Community Shield for Arsenal FC at Wembley on Sunday, and revealed that he has set himself a personal target for the season
Fresh from scoring a memorable winner at Wembley to down Jos Mourinho’s Chelsea FC side, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has insisted he is aiming for more in the upcoming season and has set himself a personal target.
With his father watching on from the stands, the 21-year-old cut inside Blues left-back C sar Azpilicueta before unleashing a thunderous left-footed effort into Thibaut Courtois’ right-hand top corner. The incredible strike proved to be the only goal of the game, and the Arsenal FC youngster has expressed his desire to bag more in the new Premier League season set to get underway this weekend.
“I’ve set myself a target this year”
With Arsenal FC claiming the first trophy of the English season beating fierce rivals Chelsea FC, midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has expressed his hunger to use his winning goal as a foundation to build on for the new season.
Speaking to the Arsenal FC official website, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “I don’t know about ‘wondergoal’ but it was really nice to see that one go in. I got a goal in the Emirates Cup, and it’s what I need to do this year, there’s no doubting that and I’m not afraid to say that I need to score more goals. .

“I’ve set myself that target this year on a personal level so every time I’m on the pitch it’s important that I try and contribute in some way and a goal or an assist is what I need to do. It was really nice to [score on Sunday] and as it’s the winner it’s that little bit more special.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain could be set for a breakthrough season
With the signing of Chelsea FC legend Petr A?ech last month in a position that has been a problem for the Gunners over the past few years, as well as the Community Shield victory on Sunday, Arsenal FC fans will be hoping their side can launch a serious title challenge this season.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might just prove to be key in that endeavour. Although Wenger’s side have been linked with the likes of Karim Benzema throughout the summer, it is unlikely that a move for a big-name striker will go through this summer window.
That could mean Theo Walcott playing a much bigger role centrally up front for the Gunners, leaving Oxlade-Chamberlain to fight for a position on the right flank. Although Wenger has used the likes of Ramsey in that role in the past, the Ox is a much better fit, and if Sunday’s performance is anything to go by, will be a real handful for any left-back in the league.
If the young Englishman can remain fit throughout the season for Arsenal FC, he is likely to see a lot of game time in that role and should get all the opportunities he needs to meet his personal goals target for the season.
