Manchester United gazumped Everton in the league table with a comfortable win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
All eyes were upon Wayne Rooney in this game after the England international made headlines with a big contract extension heading into this match and he celebrated it with a wonderful goal and a win for Manchester United.
Crystal Palace started positively in the game and looked to have carried on their newly gained form under Tony Pulis, but United gained control of the game slowly but surely. But despite dominating possession, the away side had to wait till the second half to score their opening goal. Patrice Evra was fouled in the box by Marouane Chamakh and Robin van Persie stepped up and converted the resultant penalty kick. At that point the match was perfectly set up for Wayne Rooney to have the final say and he didnai??i??t disappoint. The former Everton man struck home a wonderful volley to double Unitedai??i??s lead six minutes later and the result was never in doubts after that.
David Moyes was delighted about the result and the fact that Manchester United were able to retain a player of Rooneyai??i??s calibre. The former Everton boss insisted that the England international is one of those players who can be irreplaceable for a squad.
“He’s a really important player and you think about the amount of clubs who wanted to sign him.
“He would have been too difficult to replace. There aren’t enough top players out there that you can get cheaply or easily.

Moyes also stressed on the importance of this win against an in form side like Crystal Palace.
“Crystal Palace have been doing well since Tony Pulis took over. It’s been a difficult place for any team to come and win.
“They’ve not conceded many goals and they’ve made themselves hard to beat again today, but thankfully we got two goals in the second half.” ai??i?? Moyes added.
This was only their third win in their last 11 matches in all competitions and their first away win in this New Year. Moyes will hope that his side can now build a bit of momentum as we head towards the closing stages of this season.
