Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Swansea City left back Ben Davies and are currently in talks with the Welsh club.
Ben Daviesai??i?? consistent performance for Swansea has attracted a lot of attention and both Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are hot on his heels. But recent reports suggest that Spurs are looking to gazump other competitors in the race of Daviesai??i?? signature and are currently locked in talks with Swansea regarding a deal to bring him to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham Hotspur endured a disappointing season last time around despite spending heavily on their squad last summer. The London club sacked two managers over the course of the season and the frailties in the squad were exposed.
Spurs have appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager and the former Southampton boss is reportedly keen to make Ben Davies is first signing of the summer. The left back spot has been problematic for Tottenham as Danny Rose has failed to impress while Ezekiel Fryers still seems like an unfinished article.
Despite his age Ben Davies has made tremendous progress since he was promoted to the first team in 2012. He has been a regular fixture in the starting line-up since and Welsh international has displayed maturity beyond his years. At just 21, he is one of the most talented players to have come out of Wales recently and is destined for greater things.
Reportedly a deal was agreed in principle between Swansea and Tottenham Hotspur last week regarding the sale of Davies, but club chairman Huw Jenkins pulled the plug at the last moment as he felt that Spurs didnai??i??t match their evaluation of the player.
Despite this, Tottenham remain confident about sealing the move and have begun fresh negotiations with Swansea and reportedly willing to pay A?12million, who already has 10 international caps.
Davies will be fine addition to the Spurs squad and will mean that Jan Vertonghen, who was also used as a left back at times, will move back to his favoured role at the center of the defence. His arrival could also signal the end of the road for Danny Rose at White Hart Lane.
