With Daniel Sturridge facing more time on the sidelines with another thigh injury, Liverpool must address their problems upfront where goals have been very hard to come by.
Liverpool have serious problems to address in the coming weeks as they were rocked by the news of yet another injury setback for Daniel Sturridge. The England international was expected to return for the weekend match against Crystal Palace this Sunday but it seems his spell on the sidelines will be prolonged. Though it is not certain how long this injury will keep him out but it is unlikely he is going to make his comeback anytime soon. Liverpool have struggled immensely in front of goal this season with the three present strikers combining to score only two goals so far. Summer signing Mario Balotelli has looked isolated up front while Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have not fared any better. With the lack of goals from the strikers and another setback to Sturridge, Liverpool are reportedly looking for a solution in the January transfer window. Mattia Destro
AS Roma striker Mattia Destro recently expressed his delight to be linked with a move to the Emirates after struggling to cement his place in the starting line-up of Roma this season. Rudi Garcia usually prefers a non-conventional striker in the middle hence Destro has found chances hard to come by in the capital side. He scored 13 goals in 15 starts last season and has already found the net 2 times in 3 starts this season. His conversion rate is the best in Italy and he is hungry to prove his worth. Roma director Walter Sabatini yesterday claimed that Destro is a vital member of the team and he wonai??i??t be allowed to move in January but as history suggests a big money offer for an unsettled player usually seals the deal. Rodgers might consider the Italian as a solution but Destro will be cup-tied in Europe which might make complicate the move.
Divock Origi
The 19-year-old Belgium striker is due to complete his move to Liverpool next summer but Origi recently claimed he was open to an early move as well. The Belgian international is in fine form with Ligue 1 outfit Lille and recently scored for his international team as well. Origi who was signed by Liverpool in a A?10 million transfer in July, has scored five times this season for club and country while assisting two goals as well. Lille have been struggling this season and it is unlikely they would be willing to let their key performer leave in mid season. There have been reports suggesting Liverpool would pay some compensation fees to bring back Origi in January but this whole process looks complicated and unlikely. Origi would represent the best option at this moment but everything depends on whether the two clubs can reach an agreement in January.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
The Dutch international is out of contract at the end of this season and it looks unlikely that the 31-year-old will pen a new deal after five years with Bundesliga outfit Schalke. Huntelaar was pursued by Arsenal this summer but the move never materialized. Liverpool were also reportedly interested but instead they went for Mario Balotelli who has struggled to settle so far in his new club. Huntelaar has scored 4 times this season for the Bundesliga side while he was on target in Hollandai??i??s crucial encounter with Latvia. He has never played in the Premier League and this could be the ideal time to make a move as he still represents quality.
