Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said his side still have a long way to go, but the Reds are making strides in the right direction.
Liverpool face Sunderland next and a win would make it a streak of seven consecutive victories. Liverpool come into this match with a convincing 6-3 win against Cardiff.
It seems as though the Liverpool boss still has high expectations from his players and still doesn’t regard his side as ‘perfect’.Ai??Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunderland’s visit, he addressed this while also speaking about the fans who are now ‘daring to dream’:
ai???Well itai??i??s good for them [the fans] to see the level of performance. Great that they can feel excitement and get that little bounce watching their team.
“We haven’t won it (the title) for a long time and it may or may not be this year but there is no doubt we are on the right road to winning a title here,
ai???For us, itai??i??s just about continuing the work. Weai??i??re far from being perfect. Saturday showed that.Ai??In the first half we were good going forward but defensively it wasnai??i??t so good.Ai??But what weai??i??ve been able to work on here, no matter the mistakes we make in a good, weai??i??ve got a real positive attitude still.

Some reports suggested that Daniel Sturridge would have a new contract with his wage apparently doubling. Brendan Rodgers clarified the rumors, making it two strikes with one statement as he spoke about his own contract extention
“NoAi??contracts talked about until the summer. Focus is on the club, not individuals or the manager.”
Glen Johnson, the Liverpool man who is enjoying a somewhat resurgent spell, was quoted in the morning as being the people’s choice for the title:
“Just to spice things up, the neutrals would want to see us win it. Nobody wants the same teams to be winning it over and over again. I guess the neutrals will be packing a punch for us. We must be good to watch.Ai??People watch football to enjoy themselves, see goals and see exciting footballand I think we do provide that. I think people will be rooting for us because it will be something different.
“I’m not that surprised by how we’re playing. Even last season we were battering teams but not getting the goals. At the moment we are playing well and getting the goals. It’s a case of staying calm and keeping it going.”
The Liverpool manager also hit out at critics who were hitting out on Liverpool’s weak defence:
ai???Itai??i??s easy for people to label us as a team who concede cheap goals. Itai??i??s lazy. When I arrived, the accusation was that we didnai??i??t score enough goals. Now itai??i??s that we concede too many, or the squad is too small.ai???
Rodgers also said that there is no fixed goal target for the club:
“I am happy to win 1-0 but sometimes even the best teams will concede goals. It’s lazy to say we concede cheap goals,” he added.
“The aim is to win playing attractive football. I’m not thinking about (100 goals) that is not the mentality, our mentality is to win and I’m just thinking about winning the next game.
“We have the quality to score goals and people are probably looking at that (100) as a target, which shows the monumental development which has been made here”.
When questioned about the same subject, the Merseyside club’s boss replied with:

Liverpool loaned forward Fabio Borini to Sunderland at the start of the season and the player has done well for himself in his spell away at the Stadium of Light. Rodgers hailed the player saying the loan spell has benefited the player and Liverpool. Fabio, will be ineligible to play against his parent club on Wednesday:
“Fabio went out to get games, go on loan and play more regularly than he was playing here.Ai??He has done that and showed with some of the goals he has scored – particularly against the big teams – the qualities that he has. The goal he scored in the Capital One Cup final was a fantastic goal.
“He has gone away to get experience of playing. Fabio will come back in the summer and he will be better for having played that season. And we’ll review it from there.”
“I just felt at the time that he needed to play. I felt it was important for him to go and get games, and get games regularly.
“He has played as a striker, played wide and played in pressure games, and he has done very well. As a young player, I felt it was important for him to do that. Hopefully, in the future, Liverpool will benefit from it.”
