Arsenal FC maintained their lead at the top of the table as Santi Cazorla scored a wonderful brace to seal the win against Fulham.
Arsenal maintained their wonderful run of results with this win. The Gunners have now won their last six matches in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last seven. Although Manchester City and Chelsea are breathing down their neck at the moment, Arsene Wengerai??i??s men have responded well to this pressure and have now kept five clean sheets in their last seven matches. They will now hope that Manchester United can do them a favour and take points off Chelsea on Sunday. The Gunners will now face Coventry in their next FA Cup fixture, before they travel to face Southampton.
Fulham on the other hand are currently 17th in the league table and Rene Meulensteen will have his work cut out in preventing the London club from being involved in a relegation dog fight this season. It was their third defeat in their last four matches and they will hope to turn this around in their next match against Swansea City.
The home side dominated the opening moments of the first half, but Fulham gradually grew into the game and ended the half as the better side. Arsenal came out strongly in the second half though and Santi Cazorla scored a brace in a five minute spell. His first arrived after some quick exchange of passes between Cazorla, Giroud and Wilshere. The England international found Cazorla with his cut back and the Spaniard buried in at the back of the net.
Just five minutes later, Cazorla doubled the lead, this time with a wonderful left footed finish. Hangelandai??i??s clearance from a cross fell perfectly for Cazorla and he pull out a wonderfully placed shot. In the end it turned out to be a comfortable win for the home side as they make their way back to the top of the table.
Arsene Wenger was pleased with his sideai??i??s defensive performance and praised Santi Cazorla for the wonderful two goals.
“Defensively we did really well today.
“We were one paced in the first half and then Cazorla delivered two excellent goals and everyone is happy. In the second period it appeared to be a matter of time.
“Santi has missed a large part of the season but he is free from pain in his ankle now and we are seeing what a great player he is.
“Stability though is vital and we have to be patient going forward and that is why I believe our defenders deserve credit.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Wenger also believes that his side will compete for the title at the end of the season, despite a lot of doubters and has hoped that his team can prove them wrong with their consistency.
“It is a nice pressure being in the top four but we can live with that and focus on our performances.” ai??i?? Wenger added.
