Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard has said that he is yet to discuss with the club about a new contract and hinted that at some point he might want to play in MLS.
Steven Gerrard, who recently retired from International football, has revealed that he is yet to discuss about a new contract with Liverpool, but is confident of extending his stay at Anfield beyond this season.
Since making his first team debut in 1998, Gerrard has made 669 appearances for his hometown club and has already established himself as one of the greatest to have ever played for Liverpool. Gerrard excelled in his new deeper role in the midfielder under Brendan Rodgers last season, as the Reds mounted a wonderful title challenge.
The 34-year-old retired from international football after Englandai??i??s exit from the World Cup, as he looked to prolong his club career. His current contract with Liverpool expires in 2015, and Brendan Rodgers has already spoken about a new deal being on the table for the club captain.
Steven Gerrard has stated that he is yet to open talks with the club about extending his contract, but he is confident of prolonging his stay at Anfield beyond this season.
“Brendan has mentioned a new deal a couple of times in the media, but no talks have happened.
“I am not trying to call the club out or anything like that. It’s not like that. I’m sure we will talk in the future but we will have to wait and see.
“I hope that Iai??i??m here for more than one year, of course I do, but it is all about this season for me.
“I still believe we can be involved in the title race. I believe if we had Luis Suarez, we’d be favourites. We played some incredible stuff last season and we are a very, very good side ai??i?? don’t forget that.” ai??i?? The Liverpool midfielder said.
Gerrad has seen his former England team-mate Frank Lampard sign for New York City this summer, after his contract expired with Chelsea, and he feels it was the right decision for midfielder. He has also insisted that he might consider playing in MLS in the future, when he looks for something new.
“One day that might happen to me, I don’t know.
“I’ve never really discussed it with anyone or thought about it. Maybe one day I would like the chance to go away from Liverpool for a short time and try something different.
“I think Frank has made a great decision. At his age, 36, he’s had a wonderful career and I don’t think he has anything to prove in England any more.
“He’s broken records with Chelsea and won everything with them. I think it’s a perfect move for him.
“But I haven’t given it much thought. That carrot hasn’t been dangled yet.” ai??i?? Gerrard added.
