Manchester United winger is struggling to get a regular playing time at Old Trafford and now the reports have come out that the Turkish club Besiktas are ready to offer him a way out.
Istanbul based newspaper Milliyet has reported today that Besiktas are preparing a summer move for Kagawa. Kagawa has endured an unhappy time under David Moyes this season after largely failing to impress since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2012. And Juan Mata’s January signing from Chelsea means Kagawa may find himself even further down the pecking order for his preferred position in behind the striker.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a return to Dortmund in the most recent transfer window with Atletico Madrid also reportedly interested.
Kagawa has certainly failed to live up to expectations which he set during his time at Borussia Dortmund. The Japanese international was a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s work during the 2011-12 season, which prompted David Moyes’ predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson, to splash out A?24 million on the midfield dictator.
Kagawa has struggled with plenty of injuries during his time, but when fit, has futile to fit the billing. Fans urged Ferguson and Moyes to play Kagawa in his favoured central position, but even when deployed there the Japanese international did not impress.
And while United have always insisted that Kagawa remains part of their plans, reports in Istanbul suggest Besiktas are ready to make a concerted effort to lure the player away from Old Trafford.
Kagawa has not played since he was substituted during the Capital One Cup loss to Sunderland on 22 January and his lack of playing time is sure to deepen his frustration about his current form.
Earlier this month Kagawa told Japanese TV channelAi??Sky PerfecTV: “I still haven’t scored any goals this season so I’ve felt very irritated.
“This is the first time in my career that I haven’t been able to produce so it’s disappointing.
“I pressure myself to score in every game but some days it feels like I just can’t win. I know I have to overcome that.
“Actually, if I can’t it really shows that I haven’t grown as a player. So because of that I have to really focus on the second half of the season and overcome that mental block.”
However, Besiktas will have to fend off competition from Kagawa’s former club, Borussia Dortmund. Jurgen Klopp has been urged to make a move for the former fan favourite, in order to improve the squad for next season.
It remains to be seen whether United are ready to cut ties with Kagawa at the end of the season, and whether Besiktas can offer a comparable offer to that of Dortmund, as United hope to get Ilkay Gundogan or Marco Reus included in any deal.
