FC Barcelona have made Alex Song available on free loan and Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are set to fight for the signature of the player.
Former Arsenal star Alex Song joined FC Barcelona two years ago but he failed to make his mark at Camp Nou and new boss Luis Enrique is willing to let him go. The Ivory Cost international has set his heart on Premier League return and the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are interested in his services.
English daily The Telegraph has also confirmed the interest of Premier League trio in the defensive midfielder. That could alert Tottenham, Everton and even Manchester United before the transfer window shuts at the end of this month. Alex Song signed for FC Barcelona in the summer of 2012 but has failed to make his mark in past two seasons. New boss has plenty of talent available at his disposal in the midfield and the ex-Arsenal star has no chance of getting any playing time at Camp Nou. Another fact going against Alex Song is the contract renewal of Javier Mascherano. The Argentina international performed extremely well in the World Cup and club has offered him a contract renewal, ultimately meaning that Song is free to go.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is currently looking for a world class midfielder and Song is the cheapest but quality option available for him. However, Song is not the first choice of Van Gaal. The Dutchman is interested in signing Ajax midfielder Daley Blind but the youngster is more interested in moving to Barcelona than joining Red Devils.
The Telegraph claims that London based side Tottenham remain hopeful of landing primary midfield target Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton, but if Toffees remain resolute in their determination to keep the Frenchman then Song is a possible alternative.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham are not the only interested clubs in the services of Alex Song. Italian giants Inter Milan and Turkish champions Galatsaray have also shown in signing the 26 year old.
The battle for the signature of Alex Song is expected to continue until the closing day of the transfer window and it is going to be interesting to see which club emerges as the winner in the long standing transfer saga.
