Reports coming out of Brazil suggest Manchester United midfielder Anderson has had talks with former club Gremio for a transfer in January.
The Brazilian is said to have accepted to take a wage-cut from his reported 55,000-a-week to 35,000-a-week, but Gremioai??i??s financial worries means that Anderson might have to take a further pay cut if he is to seal a transfer.
Andersonai??i??s contract with Manchester United expires in June 2015, and under the Bosman ruling he is free to enter into discussions with clubs over a potential transfers.
The Brazilian claims he has had offers from Qatar and United States, but that Gremio would be his preferred destination.
“There is always the possibility of returning to Gremio. It’s my home, I grew up at the club. I am a fan, everyone knows that,”Ai??he toldAi??Radio Bandeirantes.
“It’s possible, as it was in the past. I have been contacted by the club before.
“I want to be closer to my family, to my daughters. There has never been an offer, but I have known the club for a long time. I am not desperate to join Gremio, though, as I respect all Brazilian clubs.
“Gremio have a chance but it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on their board. I was close a year ago, before joining Fiorentina. I would accept a reduction in my wages.”
Signed in 2007 for a fee of 20 million from Porto, Anderson had a spectacular start to his Old Trafford career, picking up the league and Champions League double in his debut season. 38 starts in the season suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson had finally found an answer for his midfield worries, and the Brazilian was even said to be the perfect replacement for the ageing Paul Scholes.
But fitness and weight issues, coupled with a drop in form, meant that the Brazilian only made a total of 70 appearances in 7 years at Old Trafford, contributing nine goals and eight assists ai??i?? a poor return by any standard.
With manager Louis Van Gaal not convinced of the playersai??i?? ability to stay injury-free and perform to the high standards set by the Dutchman, it is reported that the club is willing to let the Brazilian go for free once his contract expires in June 2015.
Fans can only imagine what could have been for Anderson, a player who showed immense promise and potential in his first two years.
Gremio are said to be assessing a return for Anderson, with the incoming president Romildo Bolzan hopeful of a deal for a player who has cult status at the club after breaking into the first team aged 16 in 2004.
