Barcelona have successfully completed the move for Sevilla midfielder IvanAi??Rakitic,Ai??tyingAi??the player at Camp Nou until 2019.
Barcelona successfully sealed the expected Rakitic deal on Monday, making it the first big signing for the Catalonians this season so far. The deal also saw Denis Suarez loaned out to Sevilla for two years.
The club’s official website confirmed the news stating, “Ivan Rakitic will sign a contract with FC Barcelona for the next five seasons. Both clubs have also agreed for Denis Suarez to be loaned to the Andalusian club for the next two seasons.ai???
The signing came just a few days after Cesc Fabregas’s move to Chelsea, as Barcelona are looking to completely revamp their squad before the next season kicks off.
Rakitic, 26, has earned a great reputation because of his all-rounder gameplay. He captained and played an important part in Sevilla’s Europa League triumph. He continued his good form this season by scoring 15 goals and was involved in 18 assists. He showed his midfield capabilities in the recent world cup match against Brazil, where he managed to sneak past the Brazilian defence with his creative and free style of play in the midfield.
Rakitic will provide a great balance to the Barcelona squad; his ability to fit in at any position in the midfield will suit Barcelona’s style of play. Barcelona, surprisingly, lacked creativity in the midfield which Rakitic may well bring back into their game. Barcelona’s new coach has been a great admirer of the Croatian international, calling him the best attacking midfielder in the world at present.
This season has seen several of Barcelona’s legendary players leaving the club. Carles Puyol decided to call it a day, while Victor Valdes, Jose Pinto and Zubizarreta have all departed from the club. Alexis Sanchez’s Juventus move is almost set to be done, and Xavi and Mascherano’s futures will be decided after the World Cup.
Barcelona are about to make a lot of changes this year in order to re-strengthen their squad. They have already brought two loaned out players, Gerard Deulofeu and Rafinha, back to their squad.
