Rising star at Roma
One season ago Roma had it all, the Skill and Experience of a legend in Totti and the trickery and youthful exuberance of Erik Lamela. As a 19 year old Lamela enjoyed great success in at his first club River Plate. Soon Roma brought him over to Serie A in the year 2011. Ending his debut season with 6 goals from 31 games, although was somewhat of an average start, Lamela was touted the next Totti by the Club Faithfulai??i??s.
Lamelaai??i??s Second season was one to remember. This is where the player established himself as a true talent. A good patch saw him score 15 times in 33 appearance, making him the fifth highest scorer of Serie A. His form also earned him a spot in the Argentina National Team and also earning him the title the ai???next Messi.ai???Ai?? By now he was one among the top players under 21 and saw his valuation skyrocket. His future looked bright in the Italian side even though their 6th place finish ensured his club stayed away from European football for another year.

Elsewhere in North London in a club called Tottenham Hotspur FC a giant was on the move. Gareth Bale the Welsh sensation was being given a mammoth 100 million price tag. This seemed the most preposterous asking rate, but to everyoneai??i??s surprise one club was ready to shell out the dough. Real Madrid broke the world transfer record for what seemed the hundredth time to acquire Gareth Bale. This brought about a void in the north London Squad. Tottenham which heavily relied on Baleai??i??s performance would be surely handicapped without him. However they were thrown money beyond imagination for the trade and they did what any person with poor judgment would do, spend it all.
Tottenham in the 2013 summer transfer market went on a buying spree, they replaced players who departed or were released and brought in new players to brign in more depth and quality to the squad. They broke their Inward transfer record with the purchase of Paulinho from Coranthians. They believed he would be an apt box to box midfield and would be a good replacement for the departed Modric or Van der Vaat. They then in pursuit of a striker purchased the Valencia star Roberto Soldado splashing a wopping 26 Million Pounds.
However one question that puzzled all was who would now put on Gareth Baleai??i??s shoes or rather who would replace the now departed Bale. Daniel Levy answered the question by bringing in the Roma starlet Erik Lamela for a record breaking A? 30 Million. Tottenham on paper with their summer purchases looked stronger than the rest with Lamela being touted as an instant success.
The Ex-roma man however has looked uneasy and hasnai??i??t yet settled to the pace and playing style of the Premier League. Having very less game time under the then Manager AVB. Lamelaai??i??s record at Tottenham speaks for itself, of the 17 appearance he has managed to score only one goal in the Europa League. All of his 9 performances in the Premier League have been quiet dismal and the two appearances in the League are nothing to boast about. After which he has not even featured as part of the bench in any of the Tottenham Games.
What Could Happen
With the World Cup approaching there was a lot of movement in the transfer market this season as benched players looked to get more game time in smaller clubs as compared to name and fame at a bigger club. Lamela too lost all hope of reviving his career at Spurs decided the best remedy would be to move out and get more minutes under his belt with a loan move to an Italian club whose League he is familiar with. With Rumors of Inter Milan interested in him, Lamela had the chance of returning to Serie A on a loan deal.
The Lamela loan deal would work to the advantage of the player as he would gain much playing time and being a prospective star in his countryai??i??s national team his appearance might restore confidence in the selectors and coachai??i??s mind. Playing in familiar grounds might also instill self-confidence so that when he is back to spurs after the loan spell he can compete with his head held high to earn himself a spot in the starting lineup. Similar to Andros Townsend Lamela too might return a new star.
However if Lamela stays with Tim Sherwood, the new coach, who isnai??i??t scared to try new things might acclimatize him and fit him into the squad sooner than later like he did with Bentaleb. This would not only work to the advantage of the player, but also of the club as Tottenham would stop classifying one more of their big money signings as a failure and would prevent Lamelaai??i??s value from being driven to the ground which is what would happen in he were sent on loan.
Lamela walks on a thin ice as the pressure of his price tag is on his back and is close to being classified as a very expensive flop.
