Everton manager Roberto Martinez has dismissed reports linking Seamus Coleman with a move to Manchester United in the summer.
Seamus Coleman has been one of the best full backs in the Premier League this season. The Irishman has prospered under new manager Roberto Martinez and provided massive contributions both defensively and in attack to the Merseyside club, who are competing for a place in Europe next season. Like every exciting young talent, Coleman has also drawn interest from a lot of other clubs and rumour mills have recently linked him with a move to Manchester United.
David Moyes, who signed Seamus Coleman from Sligo Rovers back in 2008, is keen to bring the 25-year-old to Old Trafford in the summer. Manchester United are expected to undergo massive changes in the squad before the next season and one can expect to see a completely need back four. Most of the experienced players in defence are expected to leave in the summer and David Moyes will have to look for the right replacements. Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed his departure, while Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra could also be approaching the end of their career at Old Trafford. United currently also lack proper back-up for Rafael and the Brazilian has also been inconsistent throughout the season. The fact that he faces little competition in the squad for that role is perhaps one of the prime reasons behind such inconsistency. Coleman could be an improvement on Rafael and David Moyes is looking use his influence at his former club to materialize this move.
Reports in English media suggest that Manchester United are willing to offerAi??A?15million for Coleman, although Everton are unwilling to part ways with their prized asset. The right backai??i??s current contract expires in 2018, but the Merseyside club are already willing to offer him a pay rise with bumper new contract before the end of this season.
Meanwhile, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has dismissed reports which suggested that Manchester United officials are already in advanced talks with Everton regarding this deal and the former Wigan boss insisted that Coleman will remain at the club for unforeseeable future.
“It must be a different Seamus Coleman because we’ve never had any discussions with anyone.
“I think the truth is that Seamus has been having a very good season and we want that to continue and hopefully in the next 10 games he can continue with the levels he’s shown and developing.
“He’s becoming a very, very important player at Everton, a very important player for his national team and obviously we want Seamus here for a long, long time. So it’s nothing to comment on.
“We’ve got a clear strategy of how we want to keep this group together, we’ve got a new generation coming through (and) we’re going to keep the senior players for as long as we can.
