Borrusia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has said that he would love for Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa to return to the German club.
The Japan international left the German club in 2012 for United, but has somehow always been on the sidelines in the Red Devil’s plans. Therefore, he has failed to stamp his mark in the English Premier League in his two years in the Premier League.
He has previously stated his dissatisfaction at being a fringe player for the club. Old teammate Hummels said that getting the Japanese international back from the Premier League side would be great Ai??for the club:
“We would take him with open arms, of course.Ai??Having an offensive line with [Marco] Reus, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan and Kagawa would certainly be stylish.Ai??”But I would not say anything about the other great players we have playing for us. The attacking midfield is probably the best part of our team without Shinji.”
Back in 2013, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp also voiced his frustration at seeing Kagawa not being used to his potential. He said:
“My heart breaks. Really, I have tears in my eyes.Ai??Central midfield is Shinji’s best role. He’s an offensive midfielder with one of the best noses for goal I ever saw.”
KagawaAi??was instrumental in Dortmund’s back-to-backAi??Bundesliga titles beforeAi??BayernAi??Munich reasserted themselves at the top of the pile. However, he has not enjoyed contributing to United’s success. The lack of time on the pitch obviously also means that his form has not been good or consistent. Kagawa voiced his frustration durning Moyes’ time but the trio of Danny Welbeck, Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa, the three who were frustrated by their Scottish manager, are said to be staying with a change in management.
Kagawa started the match against Norwich but could not impressAi??and eventually had to watch Juan Mata netting two from the bench. The 25 year old hasAi??no goals and just three assists in 24 appearances across the Premier League and Europe this campaign.
Reports in Germany state that Klopp wants the player back to his old home- a place where he can get back to his old form and help his side compete with Bayern Munich in all competitions. It has been reported byAi??KickerAi??that the Dortmund boss is eager to find a new ‘No. 10’ and his priority is to bring Kagawa back from a disastrous two seasons at United.Ai??Klopp has even been reported to have told his club’s directors to not concern him with alternative midfield targets until all efforts are made to get the Japanese international back.
