Chelsea sign Zouma, Aspas loan move rejected, Zaha joins Cardiff, Berba going to Monaco

Chelsea have completed the signing of French defender Kurt Zouma for A?12.5m from Ligue 1 side St. Etienne. The defender will be spending the rest of the season on loan in France and will be joining the Chelsea team in the summer when he is expected to go straight into the first-team squad. Although the deal hasnai??i??t yet confirmed officially by either of the two clubs, there is proof of the move being completed.

The Zouma deal is Chelsea’s fourth signing of the January window, the others being Nemanja Matic, Mohamed Salah and Mario Pasalic, raising doubts over captain John Terryai??i??s future at the club. The 33 year old is out of contract in the summer and the decision about a possible renewal is unlikely to happen until March.

Yesterday, Sky Italiaai??i??s Gianluca Di Marzio reported the signing of the 18-year-oldAi?? Mario PaA?aliAi?? from Croatian side Hajduk Split for ai??i??3m. Lazio were also interested in the youngster, but Chelsea Ai??ai???jumped in and was able to acquire the Hajduk Split prospect.ai??? Pasalic has scored six goals from 13 appearances this season for Hadjuk, and has represented Croatia at U16, U17 and U19 level.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have turned down an offer to allow striker Iago Aspas to leave on loan for the rest of the season from Spanish side Valencia. Liverpool have been linked with a move for Ukrainian winger Yehven Konoplyanka from Dnipro, and there were rumors that it could pave the way for the departure of the Spaniard. However, with the deal for Konoplyanka yet to be completed (he is expected to have his medical in Ukraine in order to complete the deal in time), Liverpool will not be allowing any first team players to leave in this transfer window.

There have been rumors floating around that Liverpool could use the striker as a makeweight in a deal for Argentine midfielder Ever Banega. Aspas has struggled since his move from Celta Vigo in the summer but Valencia will not allow one of their most prized assets leave so late in the window despite their interest in the striker.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have allowed young winger Wilfried Zaha to join Premier League side Cardiff City on loan for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old’s move had been a protracted one and has eventually been finalized, and will help former United player Ole Gunnar Solksjaerai??i??s side fight for survival. Zaha took it upon himself to confirm the move by posting a picture of himself in Cardiff’s training gear on Instagram. The winger hasnai??i??t made a league start for United since his A?15million move from Palace last January.

Former United player Dimitar Berbatov is all set to join French side Monaco despite rumors of a possible return to former club Tottenham. The A?1.5m rated Berbatov was being rumored of being part of a swap deal involving Tottenham winger Lewis Holtby, but that is not going to happen. The big-spending Ligue 1 side has moved for the 33-year-old as cover for injured star Radamel Falcao, who underwent successful surgery on a knee injury last week. He is expected to is expected to fly to the principality and undergo a medical later today.
