Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has rubbished transfer rumours claiming former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov is close to joining the London club.

Rumour mills have linked Fulham striker Dimitar Bebatov with a move to league leaders Arsenal in this transfer window. The Gunners are currently struggling with injuries to two of their strikers and are expected to sign a new forward in January. Olivier Giroud missed the match against Cardiff with fitness concerns and is expected to miss the match against Tottenham in the FA Cup as well. Nicklas Bendtner, who scored the opening goal against Cardiff after coming on as a substitute in the second half, is also expected to be out for a considerable period after picking up a knock in that game. Yaya Sanogo, the youngster whom Arsenal signed in the summer, is also struggling with his fitness and the Gunners have a visible lack of depth in that department.
The festive period has stretched the squad and Arsenalai??i??s over dependence on Giroud gas been highlighted. Lukas Podolski can play in that role, but he is not the ideal man to play as a lone striker upfront. Arsenalai??i??s title challenge might depend on whether they are able to strengthen this department in this window. English media have linked the Gunners with a move for Dimitar Berbatov, who has been largely inconsistent so far this season for Fulham. The rumours were further fuelled when Arsenal youngster Yaya Sanogo welcomed the former Manchester United striker to the club through the social media.
The Frenchman later deleted this from his account and now Arsene Wenger has also rubbished these rumours linking the Bulgarian international with a move to the Emirates.
“Dimitar Berbatov is a not a name we have considered, at the moment.
“I don’t want to go into speculation on any specific names as that would not help and would be disrespectful to the club where they are playing at the moment.
“We are just considering our options and I must confess they are quite restricted. We have not even been out in the transfer market, we have not contacted anybody.
“We are just analysing our own situation and, of course, being very cautious until we are well informed about Bendtner and Sanogo, who is back in training now. We will make a decision after that.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Meanwhile, Theo Walcott has also welcomed new addition to the squad, although he insisted that it is difficult to strike a deal in this window.
“To be fair that is for the manager to decide if he wants to go out and buy anyone, whoever will come to the club in January, if not it is going to make the club stronger anyway.
“It is always nice to have competition with players coming in, but January is such a difficult period in the transfer market to get players in, especially the top players.
