Arsenal FC midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to miss action for six weeks after picking up an injury on international duty.
Arsenalai??i??s poor luck with injuries continued as another of their player faces a long spell on the side-lines with fitness concerns. Jack Wilshere started in Englandai??i??s international friendly against Denmark at Wembley before being substituted before the hour mark. The Arsenal midfielder was involved in strong challenge with Daniel Agger, but initially didnai??i??t show any problem with his foot and carried on. Even in the post-match interview Wilshere seemed confident that it was just a bruise. But after being tested by the Arsenal medical team, it was revealed that the 22-year-old has picked up ai???hairline fractureai??? in the navicular bone in his left foot.
“Wilshere suffered the injury during England’s international match with Denmark on Wednesday night at Wembley Stadium, in which he played 59 minutes.
“Following initial scans carried out by the FA on Wednesday night, further investigation by Arsenal’s medical team has discovered a crack to a small bone in Jack’s left foot – the navicular, an area of his foot which has not been previously injured.
“Jack will now require a period of approximately six weeks’ rehabilitation, before starting to regain his match fitness.” ai??i?? Read a joint statement released by the FA and Arsenal.
This injury couldnai??i??t have arrived at a worse time for the Gunners, who are undergoing a dip in form and have tough set of fixtures to contain with in the following weeks. Wilshereai??i??s injury means he will now miss the all-important FA Cup clash against Everton tomorrow, along with the second leg of their Champions League tie against Bayern Munich. In the league he will miss big matches against London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea, followed by matches against Swansea, Manchester City, Everton and West Ham. If Arsenal do progress to the next round of the FA Cup, Wilshere will also miss the semi-final scheduled in the second week of April. The midfielder could possibly return for Arsenalai??i??s clash against Hull City on 19th April, and by that time Arsenalai??i??s season could be all but over already.
Arsene Wenger is already missing Aaron Ramsey, who is expected to return for the North London derby, along with long term injury concerns to both Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby. Arsenalai??i??s winter signing Kim Kallstrom is close to returning to full fitness and Wenger will hope he can step up and fill the void left by Wilshere. Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta will be paired in the pivot against Everton, although Wenger does have the option of using Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Tomas Rosicky in that role as well.
Meanwhile, England manager Roy Hodgson has expressed his disappointment about Wilshereai??i??s injury and has hoped for his quick recovery.
