Arsenal FC cruised past Hull City as Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil showed what the Gunners have been missing off late.
Arsenal maintained their grip over the fourth spot with this win and now with three games remaining, they are favourites to beat Everton to the last Champions League qualifying spot. Arsene Wenger welcomed back Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil to the starting line-up for this game and the duo showed exactly what the Gunners have missed off late.
The home side started the match brightly, but failed to take advantage of a good start. Arsenal slowly grew in the game and took the lead in the 31st minute through Aaron Ramsey. It was a delightful move by the Gunners with Ozil and Cazorla involved in the build-up and the Welshman providing the finish. It wasnai??i??t long before Arsenal doubled their lead, this time through Lukas Podolski, who continued his great goal scoring form off late.
In the second half Arsenal controlled the game and possession and Hull City didnai??i??t create too many opportunities. Podolski completed his brace at the start of the second half and confirmed all three points to the Gunners. They now prepare to face Newcastle United in their next game as they look to maintain their top four spot with Everton breathing down their neck.
Arsene Wenger was delighted with his sideai??i??s performance in this match and the way the team responded after being tested by Hull City in the opening thirty minutes of the game.
“We kept a clean sheet, we scored three goals and overall, I believe that performance was good,” he told Sky Sports.
“We were tested in the first half from a very physical game. We responded with great movement and scored.
“In the second half, we controlled and it was easier and overall, it’s a convincing win.
“We looked dangerous to score goals again. We had a few away games where we looked toothless and to think our combination game and our speed in the game was back and they looked like scoring.
“In the Premier League, you’re always a bit apprehensive before every game and you want your team to perform as well as you can and when your players are out, you have to cope with it.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Wenger was also full of praise for Lukas Podolski, who has now scored four goals in his last two matches, and stressed in the importance of his contribution. When asked about whether the left wing is Podolskiai??i??s best position in the side, Wenger said: “I think so.
“He’s popping up in the box at the right moment, it’s more important for him to be consistent there. I think it suits him to have a physical player in front of him.”
There was a moment of controvery in the build-up the second goal when Mikel Arteta and Nikica Jelavic came together in Arsenalai??i??s half, Hull City were furious at not having won a foul for that tackle by the Spaniard. But Wenger felt the referee made the right call.
“Honestly, I didn’t feel it was a foul. If he had given it I would have not complained but it was 70 yards from the goal.” ai??i?? Wenger added.
This game also served as a preview to the FA Cup final that awaits these two sides, but Arsene Wenger feels his team is now focused on finishing the Premier League strongly.
“Premiership is Premiership. Every game is different. The Cup final will be different.
“For us at the moment, we are completely focused on the Premiership to finish as strong as we can.
