Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Morgan Schneiderlin has reportedly refused to extend his Southampton contract sparking fresh rumours of exit.
Morgan Schneiderlin has alerted Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as fresh reports of the Southampton midfielder reluctant to sign a new contract have emerged. According to Mirror, the defensive midfielder has shown no interest in extending his stay despite Saints offering him a deal of around A?50,000-per-week.
Southampton had blocked Schneiderlinai??i??s move to Tottenham in the summer which would have been worth a A?10 million. Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who managed Schneiderlin at Southampton, is said to be interested in bringing the French international to White Hart Lane and wants to make another bid for the player in January.
Schneiderlin had previously hinted that he may leave Southampton for a big club at the end of the season, but recent reports indicate that the midfielder might be tempted to walk out the exit door in January itself.
Also interested in signing the midfielder are Tottenhamai??i??s closest rivals, Arsenal. Arsene Wenger has faced several injury problems this season and is expected to sign a few players in the January transfer window in order to strengthen his midfield and defence. Wenger is believed to be an admirer of Schneiderlin and wants to the Frenchman to be the commanding force in the midfield that the Gunners are currently lacking.
Schneiderlin is currently out injured, but has been in fine form for the Saints this season. He is one of the key reasons for their phenomenal start to the Premier League season. The midfielder has 2 and half years left on his current contract and Southampton are desperate to keep hold of him. Saints are ready to make him the highest paid player and have reportedly put a A?50,000-a-week offer for him on the table. However, Schneiderlin is leaning close to the exit door and is reluctant to commit to a fresh contract.
Next month, we could witness a bidding war between London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham to acquire the signature of the midfielder. The 25-year old is a great prospect for both clubs as he has a solid and commanding presence in the midfield.
Schneiderlin might be lured to join Arsenal after Wengerai??i??s side qualified for the round-of-16 of the Champions League. The lack of a commanding figure in the midfield might also guarantee Schneiderlin first team football with the Gunners.
Former Southamptons manager, Pochettinoai??i??s relations with Schneiderlin can prove to be the key factor as Spurs try to tempt the midfielder.
