Alejandro Sabella will resign as the manager of Argentina after the World Cup final against Germany according to his agent Eugenio Lopez.
Future of Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella remains in doubt despite La Albiceleste reaching the World Cup final for the first time since 1990. According to his agent Eugenio Lopez, Sabella will step down from his role after the final against Germany, irrespective of the result.
The former Argentinian international was appointed as the manager of the national team in 2011 after an early exit from Copa America under his predecessor Sergio Batista. After spending three years in rebuilding the Argentina squad, his side flew into Brazil as one of the favourites to win the tournament.
Despite having what is arguably the best attack in the World currently, Argentina didnai??i??t really set the tournament alight with their football in the early stages. But Sabellaai??i??s side got the right results and defeated Netherlands in the semi-final, on penalties, to book a place in the final against Germany.
Alejandro Sabella and his men are now just one match away from writing their name in the history books of Argentine football, but his agent insists that the 59-year-old will step down from the role irrespective of the result in the final.
“I am sure Alejandro won’t continue at the national team. To go at the top is always positive.
“I believe he gave everything to the national team and that now is the time to give way to another person.
“He’s going. He’s leaving whatever happens. Whether they are champions or not, a cycle is ending.” – Eugenio Lopez said in an interview.
Meanwhile, Sabella has remained coy over his future at the helm and insisted that he is only concentrating on the upcoming match against the Germans at Estadio do Maracana.
“The future, for me, is the next match, the World Cup final. Thinking about something different would be disrespectful.” ai??i?? The Argentina manager said.
