Arsenal FC dropped their first points on the road as West Brom held them to a 1-1 draw.
West Brom came into this game on the back of an amazing result against Manchester United away from home and they continued that good form with another key result at home against league leaders Arsenal.
Steve Clarkeai??i??s men dominated the first half of the match as Arsenal looked jaded. Neither of the teams created too many clear cut openings but West Brom looked more dangerous in attack. Finally they got their deserved goal at the end of the first half whenAi??Youssuf Mulumbu headed in from close range. It was fantastic cross from Amalfitano from the right hand side and Mulumbu only had to get a touch for it to go in.
Arsenal put up a better performance in the second half as they came out in search of an equaliser. Arsene Wenger didnai??i??t have too many options on the bench to change things around and he had to fall back upon Rosicky. The midfielder made an impact after coming on and set up Wilshere to score the equaliser with a well struck volley. The Englishman was on the edge of the game before that goal and he was also had a bit of luck with the goal as it got a deflection off Swedish defender Jonas Olsson.
The game was stretched after that as both sides pushed for a winner. But neither of side could create enough openings to get that important goal. In the end, it ended in a draw and perhaps a fair result considering the even flow of the match. Arsenal go into the break at the top of the table and Arsene Wenger would be hoping to get some of his injured players back in action after the break.
Arsene Wenger praised Wilshereai??i??s character after the match. The Englishman endured a troubled week off the pitch where he grabbed the headlines for the wrong reasons, but Wenger was pleased at how he didnai??i??t give up despite a poor first half and eventually scored the important goal.
“Jack is an honest guy and when he’s wrong he knows it. They have to live with it and he learns very quickly. What is more interesting for Arsenal and England is that he shows the right response on the pitch.
“Today the players don’t get away with anything, we got away with more, but they know that’s the rules of the game and the rules of modern society.
“Jack had a difficult first half but he has shown that he has character and in the end it was good that he was rewarded. He has character and he doesn’t give up and continues to play his game and in the end he got a great goal.
“He had trouble today to find the rhythm. But he has character as well. He doesn’t give up, he continues to play his game.ai??? ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
Wenger also felt that the draw was fair result given the evenly balanced match.
“Over the whole game I think it’s a fair point, over the last half-an-hour I have some regrets, because we could feel we had the opportunities to score a second goal.
“We again have shown character to come back into this game.ai??? ai??i?? Wenger added.
