Spanish football has been rocked by match-fixing allegations as LFP president Javier Tebas has announced that the match between Hercules and Sabadelli in LIGA Adelante last season will be brought under the scanner.
The match in question was held back in March, which Hercules ended up winning 3-1, courtesy of a brace from Spanish forward Braulio. But Hercules manager QuiQue Hernandez has accused Sabadelli defender Abraham Paz of ai???selling himselfai??? during the game. The win turned out to be a crucial one for Hercules, as they narrowly survived relegation by three points.
34-year-old defender Abraham Paz, who has joined Israeli club Bnei Sakhnin this summer, has denied these allegations brought against him. Interestingly Paz has had a three year stint at Hercules, and was part of the Hercules squad the won promotion to the top division back during the 2008-09 campaign. He left the Alicante side after they were relegated in 2011 and joined Cartagena. The Spaniard signed for Sabadelli last summer and made 31 appearances for them in the league, as they finished 15th in the Adelante league table.
LFP president Javier Tebas has now confirmed that the allegations are currently under investigation by the Federation and Police. He has also revealed that ai???recorded conversationai??? has been received as evidence in this case.
“Recorded conversations have come to light and the league is aware of them.
“The Sabadell coach, Mr [Lluis] Carreras, informed the league about the conversations, and we have informed the police and filed a complaint to the Spanish Football Federation.
“The conversations took place in May, the Federation and the police know about it and it will be subject to legal process.” ai??i?? Tebas told the press.
Tebas, who was elected as the president of LFP back in April, has pledged to clean the sport from corruption and indicated that the club could possibly face relegation or points deduction if found guilty.
“We want a clean sport and so sanctions should be put in place, such as automatic relegation or points deduction. Our sport and our competition must be clean.
“The worst thing would be to know about these things and not denounce them. We must have an image of promoting clean sport.
“I have to recognise that up until now this subject has been treated as a minority issue.” ai??i?? He added.
It will be now interesting to see if Murcia, who lost out to Hercules in the relegation dog fight last season take any legal action of their own on this matter.
