Chelsea defender David Luiz is pleased about rumours linking him with a move to Barcelona in the summer.
David Luiz has become regular fixture in the Chelsea starting line-up since Rafa Benitez has taken over at the club this season. The Spaniard has deployed the Brazilian defender both as a center back and as a holding midfielder player. Perhaps it is this versatility that has attracted Barcelonaai??i??s attention and reports in Spain suggest that the former Benfica defender is on Barcelonaai??i??s wish list for the summer.
Luiz has improved as a player this season. He has always been a talented footballer but what he lacks at times is composure and at times takes too much risk in parts of the field where someone like John Terry or Cahill would have just cleared the ball. But apart from the ability to defend, what Barcelona usually looks for in a defender is ball playing ability and flexibility in terms of starting in various positions on the pitch ai??i?? while the first requirement is a concern for Luiz at times, he ticks the boxes for the latter two.
The 25-year-old was questioned in a recent interview about the rumours linking him with a move to the Catalan giants and the Chelsea defender his delight at being linked with a club like Barcelona.
‘I’m happy that a club such as Barcelona is interested in me. Theyai??i??re a team of winners and their interest is a source of pride for me.

The current contract of David Luiz, who was signed for A?22million from Benfica in 2011, will expire in 2017. His ability to defend has come under criticism during his time in England and it will be interesting to see whether Chelsea will let go of the Brazilian if Barcelona do make an approach in the summer. But Barcelona are unlikely to match the transfer fee that Chelsea paid for him.
The Catalan giants are reportedly looking for a long-term replacement for Abidal and Puyol. They have already been linked with Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen, Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund and now David Luiz.
