Allegri was given a chance by the same guest a few weeks back to lead Milan on in his fourth consecutive season at the club. From taking on the entire Napoli team almost single-handedly to vanishing into thin air in the second half of the season to claiming relief at having scored a penalty in the recently-concluded Confederations Cup, El Shaarawy is the clearest of symbol of a player whose confidence in his abilities has taken a nosedive for the worse.
A few weeks back, El Shaarawy came out saying that he will remain at San Siro, quashing rumours of his move, which started as soon as the transfer window opened. While his future at Milan may be a cause for celebration for most, what bothers the other half is that he is not even half the player he was six months back. Did his talent go away? No. What went away is his confidence, his self-belief and his aura.
