Liverpool and Arsenal are mulling about a summer move for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.
Ashley Williams has seen his stock rise this season with some assured performances at the back for the Swans. The 28-year-old, who was appointed as the new Wales captain in October (replacing Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey), won the Wales footballer of the year award in 2009.
Brendan Rodgers is keen on adding more options at the back and is reportedly planning a raid, once again, on his former club in the summer. Swansea were left fuming at the start of this season when Rodgers signed Joe Allen from the Welsh club. As a part of Joe Allenai??i??s transfer, Liverpool came to an agreement that the Merseyside club wonai??i??t poach Swansea for at least one year.
Rodgers is now reportedly waiting for the summer to launch a bid for Ashley Williams. The defender, even at 28 years of age, has shown tremendous improvement in his game and currently has the highest ai???blocked shot per gameai??i?? in the league.
But Liverpool are not the only one interested in signing the Swansea City vice-captain. Arsenal are believed to be planning a move as well. The London club have sent scouts to a lot of Swanseaai??i??s matches to watch over the defender and Arsene Wenger is highly impressed.
The ball-playing defender would suit perfectly to Arsenalai??i??s style of play and Swansea can expect a lot of interest in Williams in the summer. Williams has signed a new three year deal back in October, but if any of the interested club comes in with a substantial bid, Swansea might well be forced to sell the defender.
