Former Wales striker John Hartson has urged Gale to leave Tottenham Hotspur, while new signing Lewis Holtby is adamant that, despite Gareth Baleai??i??s wonderful form, Spurs are more than just a one-man-team.
But Lewis Holtby, Tottenhamai??i??s new signing this winter, is adamant that it is more than just about Gareth Bale. The German international was full of praise for his Welsh teammate but stressed that Spurs are not a one-man team and every player deserves credit for the job they have done so far.
“He’s [Bale] a world-class player. What he’s producing week in, week out is fantastic and to have a player like Bale makes the difference.
“But it’s not only Gareth. You have to give the credit to the others. It’s a great team. Of course he scores goals. He is perfect for us but every player in the team works hard for the club.
“You see (goalkeeper) Hugo Lloris, how he saved the chance at the end against Newcastle. The defenders put their bodies into every shot. Everyone is working really hard, that’s the key.” ai??i?? Holtby said.
Bale has already scored 13 goals (15 in all competitions) in the league so far this season and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid next summer. But former Liverpool legend Ian Rush has warned Bale of the problems he might face if he decides to move abroad.
Rush, who signed for Juventus before returning to Liverpool once again, has pointed out how difficult it can be for a player to adapt to new cultures and languages.
“It [his move to Turin] was a big culture shock.
“It’s a bit easier in today’s world than it was 20-odd years ago. But it’s got to be something Gareth’s happy with.
“If you’re not happy you won’t produce your best football. He’s happy what he’s doing [at Spurs] and that’s what it’s all about.” ai??i?? Rush warned.
But former Celtic and Wales forward, John Hartson, believes Gareth bale must leave Spurs in order to win trophies. Hartson believes Spurs will find it hard to retain Bale even if they qualify for Champions League.
“Offers will come in, irrespective of whether Spurs are in the Champions League – I don’t think that makes a massive difference,” he said.
“If Gareth wants to move, he’ll decide to move with his advisers.
“Spurs will be tested in the summer in regards to what they can offer him and what bids come in for him.
“I was a player that moved around a lot but Gareth may well have found his home at Spurs, he might be quite happy to stay there.
“But if Gareth has any ambitions of winning titles, he gives himself a better chance by going to Barcelona, Manchester United or Real Madrid.
“Spurs are nowhere near winning the league or the Champions League.
“If he wants to be considered as one the best players we’ve ever seen, he needs to play at the very highest level, and that is in Spain to be challenging for the Champions League.
