Mario Gomez has completed his move from Bayern Munich to Fiorentina, the German club have confirmed.
Statistically Mario Gomez has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in recent years. Yet surprisingly enough, he faced an insecure future at Bayern Munich. Since the arrival of Mandzukic, he became the second choice striker, and with the club being linked with strikers like Lewandowski and Suarez, his days at the Allianz Arena were numbered.
Gomez, who has scored an incredible 113 goals in 174 appearances for Bayern Munich, signed a four year contract last season with the German club. But his agent had revealed earlier this month that the striker is looking for a move away from the club in order to gain regular first team football.
The prolific striker was initially linked with a move to Napoli, who are preparing for life without Edinson Cavani. Reports from Italy suggested that Gomez has already agreed to sign for the club even before the season ended. But his agent later denied those claims and said that there has been no contact with the Italian club.
The 27-year-old was then linked with a host of clubs which includes the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Juventus. But Fiorentina emerged as the front runners and have now successfully secured his signing.
This comes days after newAi??Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola insistedAi??that Gomez is still a part of his plans at the club. The 27-year-old is yet to sign a contract with Fiorentina, but a fee of A?17 Million (with an initial payment of A?13 Million) has been agreed between both the clubs. Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed this move stating that the club has granted what Gomez has wished for. He also thanked the German international for his contribution towards the clubai??i??s success in the recent past and wished him well for his future at Florence.

This is major coup for Fiorentina and there are now two ways about it. The Italian club finished fourth last season and missed out on Champions League qualification by two points. But with Gomez in their ranks they are sure to push for a top three finish once again next season. Gomezai??i??s signing is also a hint that Jovetic is close to leaving the club after facing a summer full of speculations regarding his future. Juventus are now the favourites to land him in the upcoming weeks.
