Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has confirmed that signing Wolfsburg midfielder Diego is their priority this summer.
Diego was in sensational for Wolfsburg last season. Although the season didnai??i??t start on a positive note for him, as he struggled to win over then Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath, He shined under new manager Dieter Hecking, who replaced Magath back in December.
The Brazilian international finished the season as the clubai??i??s top goal scorer (10 goals) and also made the most number of assists (7) for Wolfsburg in the league. His wonderful performances meant that Wolfsburg didnai??i??t have to fight a relegation battle this time around, as they finished at 11th in the league. Diegoai??i??s performances has once again ignited interest in him from a lot of clubs, although Atletico Madrid are believed to be the front runners at the moment.
Diego has spent a season (2011-12) on loan at Atletico Madrid and it seems like Diego Simeone has taken a liking for his fellow South American. The Atletico Madrid manager has confirmed the clubai??i??s interest in signing him and has emphasized that Diego is his only priority in the transfer window this summer.
“Diego is the only player that I have asked the club to sign and I know how hard we are trying to do that.

Simeone also stated that the club needs to buy a striker after they lost Falcao to Monaco at the end of the season.

Diego meanwhile is aware of Atleticoai??i??s interest and the 28-year-old has stated his desire to return to the Spanish capital.

But Atletico Madrid will find it hard to convince Wolfsburg to sell Diego cheaply. The manager of the German club has publicly stated few days back that Wolfsburg will try their best to retain Diego and any club wanting to sign him, will have to meet their high demands. Although Atletico do have the cash, from Falcaoai??i??s sale, to splash in the transfer market, their immediate worry should be to find a good goal scorer. So it will be interesting to see how far Simeone can go to land Diego this summer as Wolfsburg are sure to put up a big price tag on their prized asset.
