AS Roma Midfielder Simone Perrotta Hints At Retirement

Simone Perrotta has indicated his desire to retire from football as his contract with AS Roma approaches expiration.

The 35-year-old has had a long and successful career in Italian football. He started his professional career with Reggina back in 1995 before going on to play for the likes of Juventus, Bari, Chievo and most significantly for Roma. The versatile midfielder joined Roma back in 2004 and has gone one to make 326 appearances for the club. He hasnai??i??t been a regular in the starting line-up for the last two seasons, but he has always provided the required experience in the squad.

Perrotta has been quite unlucky considering the fact that he has won four runners-up medal in the Serie A with Roma, but havenai??i??t managed to win it, although he has won two Coppa Italia with the Rome based club. But Perrottaai??i?? biggest triumph as a footballer came in the 2006 World Cup, Italy lifted the trophy and Perrotta appeared in all the matches under Marcello Lippi.

Perrottaai??i??s contract present contract is set to expire at the end of this month, and the midfielder has now announced that he will look to hang up his boots from professional football, as he wants to retire as a Roma player.

“I definitely won’t stay on at Roma as a player.

“I don’t think I’ll continue playing at all, in fact, as I’d prefer to end my career as an ex-Roma player rather than the ex of another club.

“I wanted to finish my playing days with this jersey and I feel it’s the right thing to do.

“It is possible my story with Roma could continue in a different way. It is only right their project continues to move forward with the players they consider to be valid.” ai??i?? Perrotta was quoted in press.

Recent reports have also suggested that Perrotta is also considering a move outside Italy in search of new experience, although no specific clubs have been linked with him. Considering his last statement, it seems likely that the former Italian international might consider taking up a coaching role at the club.
