Arsenal FC are eyeing a move for Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm as they look to replace WojciechAi??Szczesny as the No.1 at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has made it clear that every place in the starting eleven is up for grabs, in fact the Arsenal boss has also dropped the underperforming club captain Thomas Vermaelen in the last two matches as well; a clear statement of intent has been made by Wenger.
Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer as Wenger looks to build another title winning squad. Reports suggest that the Frenchman has run out of patience with Szczesny and Vermaelen and would look to replace them ahead of the next season. Arsenal are in the market for an experienced goal-keeper and have been linked with a number of names already.
Victor Valdes, who has revealed his desire to leave Barcelona once his contract expires, along with Liverpool goalkeeper, Pepe Reina , have been linked with a move to the Emirates this summer; and Michel Vorm seems to be the latest addition to that list.
The Swansea goalkeeper has impressed everyone since joining the club back in 2011. Vorm has been one of the prime contributors towards Swanseaai??i??s success in the past two seasons. The 29-year-old won the supportersai??i?? player of the year award, Swansea playerai??i??s player of the year award and the clubai??i??s away player of the year award in his first season at the club.
The Dutch international has only recently signed a new four-year contract with the club and it would require a lucrative bid from any interested club to prize him away from the Welsh club. But reports also suggest that Vorm has a buy-out clause in his contract, which can be triggered by Arsenal in the summer.
Vorm has missed a big chunk of this season with a groin injury and Gerhard Tremmel has performed admirably well in his absence, hence Swansea might not have to look for replacement elsewhere, in fact young Welsh keeper David Cornell has done well for the reserves as well.
As far as Arsenal are concerned, Wenger desperately needs toAi?? add an experienced goalkeeper and although Vorm might not have too much experience in international football, he has spent most of his career playing in the Dutch league and has shown more consistency than any of the other Arsenal goalkeepers have in the past two seasons. A new goalkeeper would mean that at least one of Mannone, Fabianski and Szczesny will be sold next season.
