Arsenal Are Chasing Crystal Palace Youngster Jonathan Williams

Arsenal FC are hot on the heels of highly rated Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams.

In only his second season at Crystal Palace as a first team player (after being promoted from the youth team back in 2011), Jonathan Williams has already managed to draw attention from a lot of Premier League clubs this season, including Arsenal.

The 19-year-old has a wonderful left foot and can play both as an attacking midfielder and as a left winger. Williams became the second youngest player to play for the Welsh U-21 team at age of 17, back in 2010. He also received high praises from Wales U-21 manager Geraint Williams, who labelled him a ai???top-class playerai??i??.

His good performances for the U-21 team and for his club Crystal Palace also earned him two senior international caps recently. The 19-year-old made his debut for the national side in the recently concluded World Cup Qualifier match against Scotland when he came on the second half ai??i?? replacing Gareth Bale. He then earned his first start in the next match against Croatia.

Wales manager Chris Coleman was hugely impressed with Williamsai??i?? performance in the match against Scotland and heaped praises upon him in the pre-match press conference before their fixture against Croatia.

“He has a good future Jonny Williams and he has been exciting this camp.

“When you lose Baley out of any team and you are 1-0 down, it can be a psychological blow for you.

“But Jonnie Williams is 19 and he had done a great job for Palace. I know Ian Holloway likes him a lot and I have watched him and studied him a lot.

“I had no qualms about putting him on and I knew he’d be able to handle the situation.

“I just thought he really took the game to Scotland, he kept making those teasing runs through the middle and taking out two or three players and a little slip pass here or there

“For the second goal, he slid Andy King into the box and he is that type of player.

“He is a pleasure to have because he is so enthusiastic and he is enjoying it so much and that just rubs off on everybody” ai??i?? Coleman told the press.

Interestingly, Palace fans already call him ‘Joniesta’, due to his resemblance with Barcelona star Iniesta in stature and style of play. In fact Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has labelled him their own David Silva. Considering the names he has been compared to the kid already has huge expectations to fulfill in his career.

According to recent reports, Arsenal are interested in signing the youngster in the summer, having scouted him for a long time. Arsene Wenger lost to Manchester United in their pursuit of the other big talent from Crystal Palace ai??i?? Wilfried Zaha ai??i?? and he would like to close this deal before other interested clubs make their moves.
