West Ham sign Carroll on loan
THT Verdict: A move that suits all parties. Brendan Rodgersai??i?? will be breathing a sigh of relief on seeing the back of a player he found to be completely out of sync with the footballing philosophies he aims to instill at his new club. Even though the transfer fee is paltry, especially when compared to the clubs A?35 million outlay on the player just 18 months back, the reduction achieved on the wage bill will arm Rodgers with the financial firepower to bring in players of his choice. Moves for Clint Dempsey andAi??Daniel SturridgeAi??have been brewing all summer.
For West Ham, the deal represents the marquee signing that owners Sullivan and Goldai??i??s massive egos had been craving for long. Sam Allardyce too will be pleased as punch with the clubai??i??s new acquisition. If there is one manager in the Premier League who can exploit the obvious aerial prowess of the 6ft 3in forward to the maximum, it has to be Allardyce, who’s famous for his archaic but effective long ball tactics.

Juventus close in on Bendtner
Juventus have confirmed that Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is presently undergoing a medical at the club with a year long loan deal in the offing.
THT Verdict: For Juventus, landing a top quality striker in the summer transfer window has proved to more challenging than reclaiming the Serie A title last season. Entire forests in Scandinavia have vanished in the process of charting Old Ladyai??i??s search for the elusive forward this summer with moves for Robin van Persie, Fernando Llorente and most recently Dimitar Berbatov, all falling through. Situation had become so dire that there were even talks of taking Marco Borriello back from Roma. Finally though, Juveai??i??s efforts seem to have borne fruit and even if he may not have been their first (or indeed second or third) choice, the 24 year old Dane is quite a handy player as his exploits in the Euro demonstrated. Add to this the fact that he arrives from England with a considerable chip on his shoulder and will be determined to prove a point to his critics at Arsenal, Juventus may well profit from this on the football pitch over the next 9 months.
Arsenal plan shock swoop for Essien
The Daily Mail reports that Arsene Wenger is eyeing a shock loan move for Michael Essien in order to beef up his midfield options.
THT Verdict: Maybe. It does not take a pundit to figure out that there is a real dearth of ball winning midfielder at Emirates. On the other hand, with a new age being ushered in at Chelsea in terms of a host of fresh faces, Essien has found himself increasingly marginalized. Potential roadblocks: the Ghanaianai??i??s fitness issues, whether Chelsea would be open to do business with their London rivals, and the fact that Chelsea’s interest, if at all, may lie in a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal.
Sinclair heading to City
Manchester City have wrapped up the deal for Scott Sinclair for a fee believed to be around A?6.2 million.
THT Verdict: A big step up for the former Chelsea graduate Sinclair, who would do well to remind himself the fate which befell another promising young English winger who joined City in January 2010. Indeed, it might be reasonably argued that Adam Johnson is more talented than Sinclair but it still was not enough for him to pin down a regular starting spot under Mancini. So while the challenge for Sinclair is obvious for now, time will tell whether it turns out to be insurmountable in future.
Spurs look to get busy
The Premier League club which is expected to witness most activity on transfer deadline day is Tottenham Hotspur. The sale of Luka ModriAi?? has armed manager AndrAi?? Villas-Boas with funds to push through a number of last minute deals and names of Hugo Lloris, JoA?o Moutinho, Alan Dzagoev, Willian still being linked to a move to White Hart Lane. On the other hand, Rafael van der Vaart seems set to return to Hamburg whereas Jermaine Jenas and Danny Rose too look likely to depart. AVB further confirmed that the club is willing to listen to offers for Michael Dawson even though fellow centre-half Youness Kaboul is ruled out for upto four months. And if Sir Alex Ferguson is to be believed, Dimitar Berbatov may well return to his old club before the window closes.
THT Verdict: Even by their frantic standards, Spurs seemingly have left things late in this transfer window. While Daniel Levy may argue that the situation was forced upon them due to the ModriAi??Ai??impasse, the harsh reality is that Spurs have only managed a solitary point from their opening two league fixtures with instability surrounding the squad to be partly blamed for it. In a fiercely competitive league like this, even such small indiscretions are punished more often than not and Spurs fan would be praying that the slow start does not come back to haunt them come May. The good thing though is that all the madness comes to an end tonight. No matter who comes in at or exits White Hart Lane today, AVB must get his head down and ensure the team gels together at the earliest and further slip ups are averted.
