It was yet another fascinating weekend of Barclays Premier League action as the title race once again swung in Man City’s favour as rivals United – despite a thrilling three goal comeback at Stamford Bridge on Sunday- dropped two points to fall off the pace. Elsewhere, Arsenal finally returned to winning ways as they thrashed sorry Blackburn 7-1 at the Emirates as Robin Van Persie continued his rich vein of form with a fine hat-trick. Sunderland also continued their tremendous turn around under Martin O’ Neill as they defeated Stoke in controversial circumstances to move to eighth position in the table. Neighbors Newcastle also continued their fairy tale as goals from returning Demba Ba and new boy Cisse’ helped them overcome aAi??resilientAi??Aston Villa side.
Wolves were the biggest gainers in the relegation battle as they came from behind to defeat 10 men QPR Ai??while Bolton lost their first game in five as they lost to Norwich at Carrow Road. Wigan also saw a late Victor Anichebe goal deny them three points at DW stadium after Tim Howard’s blunder gave them an unlikely lead.

Game Of The Weekend: Chelsea 3-3 Manchester United
It was turning out to be a cagey and scrappy affair as is most often the case between the top sides as none of the teams was willing to take the risk. However, some brilliant work from Sturridge down the right hand side caused Evans to put the ball into his own net and the saying ai???The game needs a goalai??? was perfectly justified. Since then, United started controlling the game, but went in to the break still trailing by 1-0.
Chelsea started the second half in blazing fashion as they scored twice in four minutes to race to a 3-0 lead as United looked shattered and almost certain to drop three points. However, the game was far from over as Chelsea allowed United back into the game by dropping deep and allowing the visitors to dictate the game. Yet, it needed two dubious penalty decisions for the Red Devils to come back into it as Rooney converted both chances from 12 yards. The comeback was finally complete in the 84th minute as an unmarked Chicharito headed home from Giggsai??i?? cross. The game had still time for Chelsea to find the winner but two stunning saves from De Gea kept the scores level.
Goal Of The Weekend: Juan Mata (Chelsea)
The Spaniard gets this award for his stunning volley against Manchester United early in the second half. Torres found space on the right flank and delivered a brilliant cross over Unitedai??i??s defence towards Mata who was lurking unmarked at the back post. Still, the midfielder had a lot of work to do as he showcased perfect timing and technique to blast the ball on the volley into the roof of the net, giving De Gea no chance whatsoever.
Newcastleai??i??s new signing Demba Cisseai??i?? and Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pederson also get honourable mentions for their brilliant goals against Aston Villa and Arsenal respectively.
Assist Of The Weekend: Sergio Aguero (Man City)
After two untidy goals, the Argentine decided to turn on the style as he left Senderos and Hangeland in his wake with a sudden burst of pace down the left hand side before providing an unselfish pass in the path of Dzeko. The Bosnian had the easiest of tasks at hand as he slid the ball under the Fulham keeper for a 3-0 lead.
Save Of The Weekend: David De Gea (Man United)
Despite the huge criticism for the young goalkeeper, Sir Alex has always backed him in front of the media and De Gea repaid the managerai??i??s faith by making some wonderful saves at Stamford Bridge. But none was better than his effort to save Mataai??i??s freekick in the dying minutes as he dived full length to save his compatriotai??i??s shot that was destined for the top corner.
Miss Of The Weekend: Peter Odemwingie (West Brom)
The West Brom striker has failed to reach the dizzy heights of his last season’s campaign and it was showcased yet again in the game against Swansea. The Nigerian international found himself five yards out unmarked, with the ball coming slowly at him with an empty net to put it in, but somehow managed to hit the ball high over the bar, much to the anguish of Roy Hodgson and the West Brom fans.
Controversy Of The Week: Robert Huth Sending Off
Martin Atkinson was once again in the thick of things as his atrocious decision to send Robert Huth off for nothing more than a mistimed challenge on David Meyler. No wonder Tony Pulis was raging on the touchline as the decision turned out to be a real turning point as Sunderland claimed the win in the second half with a solitary goal.
Also, Howard Webbai??i??s two penalty decisions in favour of United in the second half will create a lot to talk about in the coming week.
Blooper Of The Weekend: Tim Howard (Everton)
Wigan have been short of luck this season, but that changed in the 76th minute against Everton. Beausejour’s cross from the left side was met by Phil Neville who diverted the ball towards the Everton goal. Although, the touch from Neville was unintentional, it posed little danger for Howard but the American made an absolute hash of the ball as it spun and bounced ever so slowly into the goal. Funnily enough, Howard did not even touch the ball, thus crediting the unfortunate Neville with an own goal. Really, it cannot get any worse than this.
