THT Transfer Watch: News And Verdicts – July 29, 2011

Liverpool Set Sights on Dann

It is reported that the Reds are looking to make a move for Birmingham City defender Scott Dann if Birmingham are willing to lower their 12 million pound valuation of the player.

THT Verdict: Likely. Its no secret that Liverpool are looking to consolidate the back line. However, any new signing might only happen after the club is able to cut the dead wood; the like of Poulsen, Degen, Cole and Jovanovic.

Manchester United Turn to Hamsik

Having been rebuffed with Sneijder transfer, Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention towards Napoli’s Marek Hamsik.

THT Verdict: Unlikely, Hamsik would certainly cost the Red Devils more than 25 million after another faboulous season with Napoli. However the 24 year Slovakian might not be the right fit for Sir Alex’s side, Hamsik could struggle in a two man midfield as the defensive side of his game is not really upto the mark.

Chelsea Wait on Pastore Decision

With new big money spenders PSG now in for Pastore, Chelsea have found themselves in limbo over the certainty of the player’s transfer. A decision is said to be imminent today.

THT Verdict: Like many proposed transfers this season, this one too is stretching beyond belief. Conflicting stories have been coming out, with Palermo President Zamparini taking the entire football world for a ride. PSG have the money to sign Pastore and if reports are to be believed, have bid higher than Chelsea. Eventually, it may all come down to the player himself. Hopefully, this story will be settled today. PSG need the player because, most importantly, they want to make a statement of intent, while Chelsea need the player because he will fit perfectly into their team.

Sunderland Offer Escape Route for Bellamy

It is safe to say that Manchester City don’t have a dearth of strikers now. However, with the big money arrivals of Balotelli, Dzeko and recently Aguero, there is almost no chance for Welsh striker Craig Bellamy to catch Mancini’s attention. Sunderland manager Steve Bruce seems to have come to his rescue as he is reportedly interested in bringing the player to the Stadium of Light.

THT Verdict: Likely. Bellamy stands no chance of breaking into the first team the following season and it would be best for him to make the move away from Eastlands.

Fulham Enter Jerome Chase

Latest reports in the media suggest that Fulham FC have joined Stoke City and Bolton in the race for Cameron Jerome’s signature.

THT Verdict: With Birmingham now participating in the Championship, it is plausible that Jerome would be attracted to the prospect of playing in the Premier League. The striker enjoyed a good season in the Premiership last season which has earned him the interest from Stoke, Bolton and now Fulham. It remains to be seen where the player will land up before the start of the season.
