THT Transfer Watch: News And Verdicts – July 16th, 2011

Aston Villa will launch a spending spree next week with Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given, Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia, West Ham midfielder Scott Parker and Tottenham full-back Alan Hutton on their hit-list.

THT Verdict: Villa will do well to get all the players mentioned. While Given will be a highly intelligent signing and a great move for the club, Villa can do better than Tottenham’s Alan Hutton. Player of the year, Scott Parker, would be another quality signing, along with Charles N’Zogbia, who is perhaps the best available replacement for Downing in terms of ability and affordability.

Real Madrid are preparing to make a bid for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as Jose Mourinho looks to boost his Bernabeu attacking options

THT Verdict: If the move goes through, Van Persie would add to Madrid’s already incisive offense. A player of Van Persie’s quality definitely has a place at Real Madrid and will not only boost the Spanish team’s chances of winning more silverware than they actually did in the past few years, but also will give him the chance to add to his tally as well. Arsene Wenger might just have a tough time in keeping suitors at bay and keep players like Van Persie, Nasri and Cesc at the Emirates. However, chances of the Dutchman leaving are less than Nasri and Cesc’s.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce wants to add both Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe of Tottenham Hotspur to his attack

THT Verdict:Since Sunderland seem to be on a trend of targeting (and signing) discarded or surplus players from other clubs, this is a definite possibility. These two are definitely worth the gamble. However, Jermaine Defoe would be the better of the two options; hungry to prove critics wrong.

Potential Chelsea target Kaka is being linked with a return to AC Milan

THT Verdict: Unlikely. Even though Kaka has stated his desire to return to San Siro sometime in future, Berlusconi has mentioned in a recent interview that Milan can only afford one player of very high wages. Currently that player is Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Aguero Opens Door To Premier League Move

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has revealed that he would be interested in playing in England or Spain. This would alert Manchester City and possibly even Chelsea who have been vying for the Argentine’s striker for a while.

‘I’d prefer to play in Spain or England, those are the two best countries.’– Aguero
