THT Transfer Watch – June 23, 2011

Young Completes United Move

Ashley Young has completed his 16 million pound move to Manchester United after having passed his medical. The player has signed a 5 year contract to stay at Old Trafford. This would indeed be a good news for all United fans as Young was a player who was closely watched by Sir Alex Ferguson and more importantly, the Red Devils were rivaling Liverpool for his signature. The player however, has chosen to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Interest Mounting in Belgian Teenager – Barcelona Are Favourites

The father of promising teenager Charly Musonda Jr. has claimed that a host of Europe’s elite are monitoring the youngster’s development.

THT Verdict: At just 14 years, Musonda Jr. has caught the eye of several clubs around Europe. The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are vying for his signature which shows just how big a talent he is. The player has expressed his desire to join the Catalan giants but Barcelona will have to find a way to break him from his contract at Anderlecht where he is tied down till 2018.

Bayern Munich bid for Tranmere Rovers’ youngster Dale Jennings

Rumors surrounding FC Bayern’s pursuit of League One side Tranmere Rovers striker Dale Jennings have turned into something more solid over the past couple days, with sources reporting that Bayern have in fact made an unconfirmed offer of €600,000 for the 18 year old.

THT Verdict: Jennings was born in Liverpool and has just played his first season as a professional for Tranmere Rovers. He’s a forward with very good technical ability. He is strong with both feet, has great pace and has a wicked shot. He’ll be fondly remembered for one goal against Plymouth Argyle where he ran from the half way line, beating numerous defenders, before coolly slotting the ball home. This could be an opportunity of a lifetime for the youngster to play at the very highest level for a top European club, that too only in his second professional season. As for Bayern, they have already signed little known Nils Petersen from Energie Cottbus. This signing could propel a healthy competition between these two youngsters and eventually help them both to become better players in the future.

Liverpool Update : Meireles, Downing, Clichy and Payet

Media reports today morning claim that, Raul Meireles could be sold to Intermilan in order to raise money to fund new player purchases. Report also claims that Raul is sort of – “out of favor” at the club, the reason why he was drifted from his Central mid-filed position towards the wings, in the later half of the previous season. We understand that Raul might be sold, not that we doubt whether the owners lack funds to back Dalglish but the fact that Liverpool are in the market for a another Creative playmaker, emphasizes on the mangers inclination towards infusing creativity in the midfiled. This will only come at a cost and at this time it seems that Raul could be the goat!

Downing is ,again, reportedly on the verge of signing for Liverpool. We would like to inform our viewers that the story has only on single Primary link, rest of all the websites are quoting that one source, which we believe cannot be trusted for now! Liverpol’s primary target is Mata ! Payet looks like a fallback option in case these targets are not converted.

Neymar on his way to Madrid

Brazil sensation Neymar, who helped Santos win the Copa Libertadores is on many major clubs’ radar. Santos’ president earlier said that any transfer talk would happen only after the Copa final and now that Santos have won it, the transfer activity might pick up momentum with Real Madrid being in the race. Chelsea seemed interested in the star striker but with reports of Falcao making a move to Stamford Bridge, Neymar is linked heavily to the Spanish giants

THT Verdict:Likely. It is no secret that Madrid are shopping for a striker this summer and with Aguero’s deal looking shaky, Madrid might just go for the Brazilian star. With the Brazilian Ronaldo opining that Madrid would be perfect for Neymar and the striker’s talent in perspective, the deal might happen in the next few days. Neymar also fits into the latest shopping criteria for Madrid – young but immensely talented. But the asking price of 45 million euros might be the one factor disturbing the bosses at the Bernabeu. If they can reduce the price by proper negotiations, this deal will go through.

Arsenal Resume Jagielka Chase

Latest reports suggest that Arsenal have again begun the pursuit of Everton and England defender Phil Jagielka. The player has been closely watched by the North London Club before.

THT Verdict: Having worked with a depleted strength in defense, Wenger is looking to strengthen the squad from the backline and needs a reliable and able player to take up the central role. Jagielka has enjoyed a really good spell at Goodison Park and an offer from Arsenal will be tempting but it is unlikely that the Toffees will be willing to entertain a deal.

Cissokho Set To Join Manchester City

According to the Mirror, Lyon left-back Cissokho is set to join Manchester City for a sum of 20 million pounds. The player was on the radar of Liverpool and Arsenal earlier on.

THT Verdict: With Boateng’s exit to Bayern Munich and Wayne Bridge’s departure, Kolarov is the only player to feature in the left back role but it looks like City have now found an able alternative choice. Cissokho has a good reputation in France and with Manchester City, he will be able to continue to feature in the Champions League. Definitely a good buy for City.

Villa-Boas Looks To Raid Former Club

New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas could raid former club Porto to make forward Radamel Falcao his first signing since being appointed at Stamford Bridge.

THT Verdict: Falcao had a brilliant last season for Porto, especially in the Europa league. He is 25 now, is good in the air, but has a release clause of 25m. A lot depends on whether the new manager rates Neymar/Lukaku or he prefers to go with his trusted striker. Also, he would have to take a decision on Drogba, Anelka, while evaluating Sturridge, before thinking about his forward options.

Gasperini Could Be Next Internazionale Manager

Giam Piero Gasperini, former Genoa manager is all set to take over as coach of Inter. Gasperini had been a coach with Juventus Primavera before joining Italy’s oldest football club, Genoa. Under his tutelage Genoa not only got promoted to Serie A but also consistently finished in top half of the table. He was sacked mid-way last season after a string of poor results.

THT Verdict: Gasperini’s teams have been known to play and eye catching brand of football, using a 3-4-3 formation. However, his ability to organize his defensive line is suspect. There are doubts how well he’ll fit into a club which is focused on winning titles.

Jeffren Unwilling to Move to Italy

A stubborn Jeffren has refused to move to Udinese and Alexis Sanchez move to Barcelona is now in major doubt, unless both clubs can find another way to revive the deal. Barcelona’s initial offer was for €28 million plus winger Jeffren. This now opens the door for City to take advantage. It is believed that the Premier League club has made a new bid of €40m for Sanchez and is now the new favourites to land the in-demand star player.

THT Verdict: Possible. Jeffren has made it clear that at this juncture of his career, he wouldn’t like a move to Udinese. This might just trigger Sanchez’s move to Man City or United, who are in a better position to meet Udinese’s demand. Jeffren, however, will not be a part of Barca’s squad next season and if reports from Spain are to be believed, could be used to make-light a move for long-time Liverpool target – Juan Mata. That should be some good business for Barcelona.

Young in United Medical – Report

Ashley Young has reportedly undergone a medical at Manchester United and could complete his switch to Old Trafford by the end of the week.

THT Verdict: Looks like a done deal by all counts. Young’s move to Old Trafford will be United’s second acquisition of the summer after Phil Jones, also David De Gea’s arrival seems a nailed on certainty. Ashley Young would provide another option in attack for the United manager as the Englishmen can operate on either wing as well as in the hole. Young’s versatility is surely going to come in handy for the Old Trafford outfit. But the question that has every one scratching their heads is, how will Nani, Valencia and Young all play together in the same X1? Ashley Young isn’t necessarily the big name glamour signing the fans wanted but surely strengthens the squad many folds.

Barcelona Confirm Offer From Roma For Bojan Krkic

The Italian side have just appointed former Barcelona B coach Luis Enrique as their new boss and he hopes to make Bojan his first signing. It is thought the 20-year-old striker has been offered a five-year contract to follow Enrique to the Stadio Olimpico. And while Barca insists no deal has yet been agreed, they admit there is a strong chance Bojan could leave the Camp Nou.”We have received an offer but it is still being studied and evaluated,” Barca’s board spokesman, Toni Freixa, told the club’s official website.

THT Verdict: Likely. This move should do the out-of-favour youngster a world of good. Roma have agreed a €10 million deal with AC Milan which will allow them to keep Marco Borriello at the club. Playin alongside the likes of Francesco Totti and Borriello, Bojan would get imperative first team action. Moreover, Luis Enrique as a coach is expected to follow the Barca philosophy, which might aid the youngster’s cause further.
