English Premier League Review – Round 14: City And Arsenal Cruise, United Do Enough, Chelsea Finally Perform

In round 14 of the Premier League, City continued their rampage towards the title by dispatching Norwich 5-1 at The Etihad, while second-placed United did just enough to get the better of a lifeless, gutless Aston Villa at Villa Park. Tottenham, who seem unstoppable at the moment, registered a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Bolton and had it not been for Jaaskelainen, the scoreline would be been unpleasantly etched into the memory of The Trotters forever!

Arsenal bounced back from a disappointing draw last weekend to win 4-0 at the DW Stadium, with van Persie scoring yet again, whileAi??beleaguered Chelsea were lucky not to have Luiz sent off but played well enough to claim a 3-0 win, away to Newcastle. Stoke City ended their dreadful run of results after a European game by winning 1-0 at Goodison Park. At the Molineux, it took a missed penalty from Larsson to bring the crowd to life – as the crowd grew vociferous, Wolves picked up their game, equalizing 25 seconds laterAi??and eventually winning the game 2-1.

Yakubu single-handedly sank Swansea at Ewood Park by scoring 4 goals to lift some pressure off his manager, Steve Kean.

With 26 minutes on the clock and with the score tied at 0-0, Arteta received the ball close to the half-way line. He found acres of space in front of him, with no opposition player closing him down, and fired a long-range screamer which had enough on it to beatAi??Ali Al Habsi to give Arsenal the lead.

Tim Krul (Newcastle United)

Although Chelsea should have been reduced to 10-men when David Luiz brought down Demba Ba with only Cech standing between the striker and the goal, Villas-Boas’ team played good football to Ai??score three goals at the newlyAi??rechristened Sports Direct Arena. Tim Krul was on god-mode throughout the game, denying Frank Lampard from the spot and Danny Sturridge on numerous occasions. After a powerful first-half header from Drogba, late goals from Kalou and Sturridge did injustice to the young Dutchman’s performance, but he did remarkably well, nonetheless, to earn a mention here.

From David Luiz’s yellow card, which should have ideally been red, to Shaun Wright-Phillips onside goal being disallowed for offside, there were many moments that created controversy this weekend. However, we had to wait until Monday night for the “winner”!
