Tottenham could face a fresh roadblock in their attempts to sell Richarlison in January, with the player taking a firm stance.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham may run into a major problem as they try to move Richarlison on before the January transfer window. The Brazilian attacker is out of contract at the end of the season, and while the club have done everything they can to offload him, he could still stay put and see out the deal.
The Richarlison saga could now take another twist that Tottenham will not welcome. The North Londoners wanted to sell him during the summer window and are still willing to let him go for a cut-price fee in the region of £15 million to £20 million ahead of the winter market.
However, Richarlison could create a new obstacle by deciding that he would rather run down his contract and leave as a free agent. That would be a major problem for Spurs, who signed him from Everton in 2022 for £60 million and are now desperate to avoid losing him for nothing.
The player may feel that leaving as a free agent is better for his career than joining another club in mid-season, especially after Tottenham’s stance towards him. The fact that he has been left out of first-team squads is another reason he may feel disrespected, which could push him to make his own decision when January arrives.

Ahead of the summer, Richarlison was widely expected to leave Spurs, and the club even agreed a deal with Everton as part of a move involving Iliman Ndiaye. In the end, Richarlison turned down the Toffees, either to explore other options or to keep fighting for his place.
He also added another complication by failing to join Brazilian side Vasco da Gama after the European window closed. On top of that, Richarlison had reportedly agreed personal terms with Trabzonspor, and the Turkish club could well return for him in January.
With moves to Everton, Vasco da Gama, and Trabzonspor all falling through, Spurs are running out of time to find a solution. Their decision to leave him out of the first-team picture shows they want him gone. However, if Richarlison sticks to his plan and waits to leave for free, he may not play again this season, and Tottenham may simply have to accept it.
