Manchester City register interest in Natan

Manchester City are all set to rival Barcelona in their pursuit of Real Betis defensive mainstay Natan.

Manchester City have registered interest in Real Betis centre-back Natan as they assess their defensive options during the final stretch of the summer transfer window.

According to a report from Fichajes, City are monitoring the situation of the 25-year-old Brazilian, who has emerged as one of the more attractive defensive options in La Liga. Real Betis are reportedly prepared to consider his departure if an offer close to €30 million arrives.

City’s interest comes after a busy summer in their defensive department. Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones have all left the club permanently, leaving Enzo Maresca’s side looking for additional quality and depth at centre-back.

Natan could therefore provide valuable competition for places while also offering considerable experience at the highest level. The Brazilian enjoyed an outstanding first season at Betis after joining from Napoli on loan in 2024, his performances convincing the Spanish side to activate their purchase option.

He featured heavily during last season as well, making 45 appearances and accumulating more than 3,700 minutes under Manuel Pellegrini. He was one of Betis’ most reliable defensive performers.

Betis subsequently handed Natan a contract running until June 2030, which strengthens the club’s negotiating position. They have no immediate need to sell and can therefore stick to their €30 million valuation.

However, a fee around that figure could tempt the Spanish club into considering a transfer, particularly because the proceeds would allow them to strengthen other areas of their squad before the window closes.

City are not the only major club monitoring Natan

Barcelona have also monitored Natan throughout the summer as they look to add experience to their centre-back options. Natan’s familiarity with La Liga and his consistent performances for Betis could make him an attractive candidate for the Catalan club.

They decided against replacing Inigo Martinez last summer and have loaned out Ronald Araujo this summer. While they have some quality youngsters at the back, Natan’s experience could come in handy.

For now, though, there is no indication that either City or Barcelona have submitted a formal offer. Natan himself appears relaxed about the situation. The defender recently reiterated that he is happy in Seville and remains under contract with Betis, leaving the decision over his future in the club’s hands.
